Hi Dave,

Nice to see you around here.

I'll be flying in from Illinois.

NOT!

There are certain advantages to being a West Coast member of IKE. I get to drive to Kite Party. :-)

Yeah, but you miss our lovely weather.
On the plus side, we have a lot of festivals within a few hours drive.

This isn't like other kite festivals. There is a public aspect to it, but only a few demos are done during the day. iQuad, and John doing his Bugs Bunny routine for example. But doing demos clears the field and gets the other fliers a bit cranky, so there aren't too many. Of course, everyone likes to watch iQuad :-D And next year, they'll want to see :Logo180GO!:

Mostly it's good and enthusiastic kite fliers crowding into the field. Good fliers can fly near each other, but a beginner would probably take too many kites out of the sky.
There's usually room on Friday, if your friend can come on a weekday. Otherwise, the beach itself usually doesn't have too many people in winter and as Dave said, you can probably find a spot further down the beach without too much bother.

Hey Mike, it should not be next year, THIS YEAR IS PERFECT FOR THE "180 GO" DEBUT in California, let's not leave for tomorrow what we or you can do today. Once you are in the arena at HB all you have to do is assemble the boy and girls togheter and press a bit on Dave, ( better if we all gang him up) and you will have all IKERS doing what we do best, a total exhibition of red shirts and kites flying IN HARMONY. for the delight of the general public. Capish. :-)

Hey Gang

Lynn and I spent the weekend in San Diego. Saturday was the monthly meeting/fly of the San Diego Kite Club. Some of them will be coming to KP.

We were in "T" shirts Friday and Saturday with about 8-9 mph from the west.

Came home this morning. This afternoon we went to Fairview Park in Costa Mesa. Lighter wind, but flew until almost dark in "T" shirts again.

Never checked temperature, but it has been real nice.

Bring shorts. You may need them, you may not. We needed them this weekend.

I'm hoping for some great weather!

We've got a busy week.

Monday, Sea World-SanDiego.
Tuesday-San Diego Zoo
Wednesday-Lego Land
Thursday-Disneyland
Fri-Sun- Kite Party!

I'll do the group dinner on Saturday, but it looks like on Friday night I'll be getting together with some other friends in the area.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

IKE is on Image too!

Jeff,
you do sound busy, but they are all fun places to go. It varies a lot from kid to kid, but in my experience, Legoland is usually a big hit with the little ones and San Diego Zoo is a lot of walking for the little ones.

So lets see: it's about a 30 minute drive to the beach... add a few minutes to park... leave about 5:45am and I should get nice full day of flying.

The weather forecasters can't accurately predict that far ahead! However, for Fri, Feb 22, they are predicting 30% of rain and 68°. But winds of 10MPH.
The last two years it did rain a little bit on one of the days.

Yup, two years ago there was a "little" rain on Friday.

From my GWTW report:

=========================

"Friday morning dawned dark and windy. Donna (AhMayzon) and I were determined to fly so we headed down to the pier. Donna is one of those people who will fly all day and into the night if you let her. It was kinda cold and the wind was from the south, coming under the pier. Vented Illy and Vented Tram came out and we were in business. Dave drove up on the pier and yelled at us. For some reason he thought we were nuts.

Aside from the bit of wind blown rain, here's why Dave thought we were nuts. He has a wind meter.

This is what it looked like on Friday:

Image

From 8 to 9:30 or so things were pretty interesting.

Around 10 AM the rain started to get more serious so we headed for cover. Chilese, Mike and Mike were high and dry in front of the bathrooms so we huddled and decided to head back to the hotel. The kites were wet and sandy but we weren't totally soaked.

The moment we stepped out into the parking lot the powers that BE decided we should get really wet. Big fat raindrops and plenty of 'em. In the 20 yards or so to the van I was soaked through. The area under the van was flooded and I stepped in up to my ankles. As soon as I jumped in and closed the door the rain stopped."

====================================

Seems like we've always had excellent weather on Saturday & Sunday
