IKE Annual Picnic - 2007

Postby Babbman » Sun, Sep 16 2007, 07:37 PM

We talked about this before but put it off for something else...

IKE's 1st anniversary is coming up on [strike]Sunday, October 14[/strike]New date: Sunday, October 21. I couldn't think of a better day to have the 1st annual IKE family picnic.

We discussed using Perry Farms (map) a couple of months ago and this still seems like the best and most central place to have it.

Planning the picnic to take up an entire day makes it very difficult for everyone to fit it in their schedule so I am proposing that we plan it for a 4 hr chunk of that day... we can keep it simple and fun... possibly a dish to pass from each family, everyone brings their own drinks and meat (or main dish meat substitute).. or something like that...

I think it would be good therapy for everyone to get together without the pressure of a festival, etc... to sit and enjoy each others company...

What's everything think? Maybe from [strike]10am - 2pm[/strike] New Time: 11 - 3 pm? If people want to stay longer, that's fine... Flying is completely optional and shouldn't be the focus of the event... for a change...lol

Let's discuss it...

Sounds good to me. I think 10 to 2 would work out fine, late enough that all can get there with out having to leave homes too early and back home at a good time too. Pot luck sides are always a good time, for there is ALWAYS a recipe or two asked for, after trying the dishes. I also agree (I bite my tongue as I type this) kites should take a back seat. Would be real nice for ALL family/club members to get a chance to meet and hang out together.

I can bring my bean bag and bolo toss games. Will also have my juke box for back ground music. My EZ up for more shade too.

If there's wind, a few SLKs could brighten the sky without requiring constant attention.

As of tomorrow the picnic will be ONE week away. With that being said, how about getting a head count started. That way we all will know how much or little to make for the pot luck sides. We will be bringing a pasta salad.

I think we can make it, although probably not by 10am. We'll keep an eye on the forecast, though. The weather needs to be good if we're going to spend the 4 hours traveling.(round trip)

I will probably be able to make it, depends on work. 10 am is doubtful. I have no idea what I am going to bring.

Perry Farms can be found on Jeff's Map: here

Also, we've decided to schedule the picnic from 11-3. Let y'all sleep in a bit.

OK, looks like the forecast is for a nice day. We'll be there as early as we can, but for us, with my wife having to do some stuff in the morning, that means probably about 11:30 since it's unlikely we'll be able to leave before 9:30.

I've never been to Perry Farms...is it just open land. Is there a playground or anything like it nearby for the kids?

Haven't thought about what to bring...we'll probably make sandwiches or something, and then bring some potato salad.
