Northerly Island (The Former Meigs Field)

Postby Jeff » Sun, Oct 07 2007, 08:23 PM

Dave was telling us about the park that Meigs field has been turned into, and it sounds like a really neat place to fly. It's flat and open, and literally on the water. Can't get more clear of obstructions than that!

Now, I bring this up knowing full well that it's probably going to be a while before we can have another club fly, much less coming all the way back up to Chicago. But I just wanted to put it out there as a location that might be nice to try sometime.

The year is winding down :( but even through winter, I'd like to attempt to get out a few times. Last year, my introduction to the club was the day after Thanksgiving. Maybe we can shoot for that day again. It was 90 this weekend, so it'll probably still be around 80 by then.

I think now that the fest are all done for the summer/fall season, it will be easier for club flies to happen.

I too think Meigs field would be a great spot to try. Plus the exposure might yield more members too.

looks like a great place to fly, perhaps Dave might set something up. The crowds could be huge. And yes the photo shots would be awsome I think.

The flying season is not over, you just have to travel a little further. I have two more festivals in the next 30 days,
both in NC.

It's nice to hear that you travel a lot for club flies. In our case, our experience is only limited with local flies but we have good winds to enjoy.
