Kite Flyer "Newbie ?"
Kite Flyer "Newbie ?"
Hey guys,
I am a young professional who just moved to chicago area. I have some experience in flying fighter kites but it's been a while and I m 100% sure that it is greatly different all the kites here.
I want to get started again but for fun..no more fighter kites for me. To be honest, I don't want to learn to build one (tight schedule + impatient) just want to fly.
Can someone help and get me started here.
thanks,
Dhaval

We can sure try... First off, Welcome!
There are a couple of ways to do this. One of the best ways it to come to a festival and try out a bunch of different kites. We have dual, quad and single line pilots and all of us are more than happy to let you try out our kites and give you some flying lessons.
we also do club flys and general flying as much as is possible. For now, We have a festival going on in Wisconsin this weekend, next weekend we will be at Mots in Milwaukee and probably your best bet would be DeKalb on Sept 16th.
Let us know where you are at in the area and let's see what we can do..

Babbman,

DeKalb is west of Geneva by about 25 miles... Milwaukee would definitely be closer... here's the site for the festival and information...
look up MOTS in google
If you can make it, let us know..

Welcome to the club Dhaval!! There are a few fests left this season, and look forward to meeting you. Like Babbman said, just show up and get a feel for some of the new kites out there today. The next fest on the schedule is MOTS, definitely closer to you. There should be quite a few IKE members up there, and quite a few of the big names in kiting.
Should be a great time, hope to see you there!

It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

Welcome to the club Dhaval! Looking forward to meeting you. If the weather is good, I'll be at the Milwaukee fest on Sunday.

Welcome, Dhaval.
Another northern flyer....I'm in Round Lake, myself.
Lots of fun stuff coming up. Milwaukee next weekend, and Dekalb the following weekend, and Montrose in early October.
It's a blast. Wait 'til we get a pair of handles in your hands!

Re: Kite Flyer "Newbie ?"
As from the club "Most Welcome".
Here is hoping you can make it out to DeKalb next weekend. Then you will have more name/faces to try and keep striaght.
Not to worry Dhaval, with all the people I have met in the last few months, SO MANY names and faces to piece together.
But its great to say that I have made tons of new friends. Which you have just joined that list!!

Re: Kite Flyer "Newbie ?"
hiya kflyer77,
Chicago Kite would be the nearest place to get parts:
http://www.chicagokite.com/
Also, try to make it out to Naperville this Sunday, Nov 11.
We'll have both dual line and quad line fliers for you to meet and learn from out there. Or maybe you can teach us a few things.
We'll be meeting from 10 to 4 at Frontier Park, here.

Welcome Aboard Kflyer77.
Hope you can make it out to Napervillie this weekend. I am from the south side also, maybe we can figure out some where to meet some time in the future. I stepped over to the dark side though.

For those new to kiting: when people switch from dual-line to quad-line it is called going over to the dark side.
I dunno how that got started. But those quads are pretty cool when you start to play with them.
