AKA Convention 2009

Postby Mike » Fri, Aug 31 2007, 07:46 AM

The site for the AKA convention for 2009 will be decided this coming January.
Do we want to try to have it in our area?
We need to start on it soon if we want it.

You folks up in the Chicago area know the region best. Naperville is 45 minutes from O'Hare and has a big field. Hotels are a problem though.

Here's the requirements:

David...

So you don't think it's worth a shot to forward over the requirements for the convention and see if they are at all interested? Seems to me that 500+ additional people plus all the other items involved may be a nice chunk of change that Naperville might want to trouser... it's more money in a week than soccer would provide.

Money does indeed talk...

Also, we are talking about 2 years in the future, not next month. Schedules can be arranged if the interest is there.

I suggest that we at least make the attempt and make it a serious attempt... all they can say is 'No Thank You'... on the other hand, if we do nothing then it is we who are saying 'No Thank You' to promotion of the sport and the possibility of increasing our opportunities. Seems we should take the risk if the only downside is in hearing the word No.

Just my 2 cents....

DeKalb and NIU are a good possibility too.
I think Rantoul is kinda in the middle of nowhere. It's not easy to get to. They would have excellent indoor fly facilities though!

NIU has facilities for indoor events. Nice ones too in those buildings right on the kite field.
