IKE Family Picnic

Postby Babbman » Thu, Aug 02 2007, 08:10 AM

We really haven't discussed much about the picnic other than the date and location.

Can we talk about what we need to bring and what we intend on doing?

I was thinking about something along the lines of everyone bringing their own meat (Brats?), drink and then a dish to pass...

Can someone supply a grill?

Do we have a final toll on who will be there?

Well, we chose this date so that you could make it David. I know you have a conflict that came up though.

I'm coming. Rose, my daughter works weekends so she can't make it. Fern, my wife, will probably be there.

We'll probably bring some type of salad thing too... since our organic vegetable garden is doing pretty well now...

Momence, east of Bourbonnais, is having their Gladiolus Festival the same weekend; it would be nice to have the picnic there... it's so beautiful with the river and the ducks, flowers, etc... but there is little room to fly, other than the grade school some distance away. Maybe next year!

WE are in, yes I said we. Kris and I will be there too.

Sounds like great idea that everybody bring their own main dish & drink and a pot luck of sides. As far as a grill, doesnt the park have grills set up in the picnic area? Most normally do.

I can bring an EZ Up, bolo toss and bean bag toss. For extra shade and in case of no wind.

What time will people want to start showing up?

It will depend on where I am in packing gear for the Dieppe Canada festival. I fly out the following Tuesday.

We'll probably get there around 9 or 10 or so. Marla said that if it's warm out, she will not be going, as she cannot take the heat. So i hope that it is a day like today (without the precip).

HI guys and gals

there has been an opertunity for us to fly at a air show this same day in rantual IL we will be there for both days and were offerd a opertunity to fly with some restriction on sun it looks like the picnic could be moved to this event and can get every one in for the day What i need to no is how many people were really planning on comeing to picnic so if we descied to move it there i have entry passes for everyone. There will be restrictions on flying hight times excetra. as soon as I now how many people woould like this opertunity. I can give all details how what time . I can tell you single lines will only be able to fly 100 feet so for you Q and dual line people it will be easy. THis could be a great way to promote the club in a different venue. Lets see if we can all come together on this.
:thanks:  :LogoRevAni: :revspin: :clubfly:

I was planning on using the picnic to pack for Dieppe, so if the picnic moves to the airshow
I probably will just find a park to pull out the big kites and repack them. 100' ceilings are
unworkable for show kites and not worth the effort.

Since we have the opportunity to start a festival over in Rantoul we should seriously consider this. It's Rantoul's first airshow.
I don't know the exact location, but here's a map of Rantoul and you can see the airport. Click here.
I know that Mike (not me, the other Mike) is into airplanes.

We can move the picnic to Late September or October when the weather is cooler.

I hate for anyone who wanted to do the picnic not to be able to do it, though as compensation, we might be able to get you free tickets to an airshow.

Of the folks who've posted here, what do you think, who wants to go the airshow?

Me - airshow
Babbman - airshow
Nick and family - ?
Tom - ?
Ken - ?
Al-votes no airshow

I vote airshow for the club as well as the fact that some issues have come up with this weekend that will make it difficult to show up anyway...

It looks like if you want some free passes, call David (click on the Chicago Kite ad at the top of this page).

Here's more info on the show: Chanute Air Museum

The airshow sounds cool if i can get in without shelling out dough... since, as of tomorrow, state employees will be working without pay until the budget is passed! So, re the airshow thing, i'm (and my other multiple personalities are) in. If we can have the picnic more toward October the weather will be cooler and Marla would be able to attend. i'll call Dave.

I think I would be able to go. Not sure about the wife yet. Will talk to her in the morning, and then call Dave.
