Roxy,
that is still the location.
I usually use NOAA sites for wind forecasts. I don't know why I check though. All wind forecasts are pretty inaccurate.
Click on the word "forecast" in my previous post to go right to Kankakee's weather. Or start at the home page at:
http://www.weather.gov/

They just dropped the forecast to 7 mph max. That's not good news...
You might want to bring frisbees, juggling equipment, or I dunno what in case we don't get wind.

I'll be leaving my house no later than 7:30 to get there at 9. If there's wind blowin' earlier, I'll be there earlier.

::Bangs kite on head:: Thanks for pointing the link out for the winds, totally missed it.

I have a stress fracture on my right foot, which makes driving a bit uncomfortable. If the wind does not pick up, I'll pass. Can't do frisbee right now. Wish everyone was closer. :(

i'll probably get there around 10ish, which is when the winds are supposed to be at around 6mph (which is good enough for me). i just got a new SUL dualie that i'll probably pull out later on too; it is too sweet!... had it out in what was probably .5mph unwinds  ... and it was tricking away!

Roxy, I understand. The forecast got worse. It looks like a no-wind day.
The problem is it's hard to re-schedule. Not everyone is available next weekend.

We could try again the weekend of the Aug 5th.
But only if I see posts here from Chris, Babbman, Ken, Tom...

Let's wait until 7:30 am before anyone leaves their house (If Chris hasn't left already!).

Who wants to try again on Aug 5th?

It's that or a lot of walking backwards today.

Here is another useful weather site.

Are any of these personal weather stations near the flying field?

61 is not too far. But if you look at the hybrid view of the map you can see it's surrounded by trees and buildings and therefore not of much use.

Just goes to show, ignore the forecast!
The wind was nice all morning and into the early afternoon. It died down about the time that Babbman showed up.
But we were still able to fly rest of the day, just taking time off during the lulls.

I was checking the weather station at the nearby college.
http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =KILBOURB1

Looks like it picked up to around 5-8 mph at 9am, pretty much in that range most of the day. A few gusts to 15.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

IKE is on Image too!

Ditto!!!!!

Sooner or later Mother Nature HAS to smile on us and give up her good winds!!

but with days of light winds the after party at dinner is ALWAYS such a HOOT!!!! Hopefully next time Mike and family can make out with us too, along with Steve.

Steve is was nice to see you out there with us too, your flying skills are coming along very well.

Try here Mike-- http://www.amazon.com/Juggling-Complete ... 976&sr=8-2

Call David, he may be able to get this. This is how I learned to juggle, it's a great book and comes with a set of three juggling balls.

It was great spending time with everyone in Bourbonnais! The restaurant was a lot of fun too! It was really a very nice day; we have been really lucky with the wonderful weather during Fly events and Festivals!

Tonight my wife and i had a discussion; she says that i cannot have a tattoo of a kite put on my arm. :( i mentioned something about it being "my body." At the upcoming picnic, please nonchalantly mention to her about how the world is so utterly lacking regarding arms with tattoos of sport kites.

The pool sharks better practice-up prior to Pontiac! You will not be able to blame your performance on the weather regarding this! :mrblue:

It's exhilarating to fly with you guys (adult kite fliers), because you are not afraid to be different (in a society which is trying to make its members fit into a standard mold or preset pattern... a society where people usually merely imitate, copy, and then absorb the gang mentality, merely becoming what they were taught to become).

from E. E. Cummings:

To be nobody-but-yourself ---- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else ---- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

It took me a while to find these images, not sport kites, but......
