Quad Fly July 5

Postby Mike » Mon, Jun 25 2007, 07:13 AM

Babbman and I are going to be flying in the Kankakee area on Thursday, July 5th--weather permitting.

We'll be practicing team-flying kind of stuff.
Any quad fliers who have the day off, come and join us!

Same here, this work thing just keeps getting in the way :(
It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

So, is this one going to happen, and if so, where exactly...and also if so, can I borrow a 1.5? :mrorange:

it's happening, and yes, you can borrow a 1.5
So far, it sounds like Babbman, you and me.
In Kankakee, maybe at that spot we flew this past winter. I'll have to find its location again and post it.

These are the directions from last time.

Call me if you can't find it or if you're concerned about the weather. (If you don't have my cell phone number, PM me)

Time: 8:30 am until Dark.
We might break for lunch somewhere nearby; we might leave early if the winds die. So if you don't see us, call me.
(the winds and temperatures have been best in the mornings--at least that's been the case 90 miles south where I live)

Location: click here for a Google Map

Tom chose this place for our winter fly, and these are his directions:

It's at the corner of Bethel Dr. and Career Center Rd. in Bourbonnais.

It is not far from Perry Farm. Take Interstate 57 to Bourbonnais to Rt. 50; go south on Rt.50 to the first big set of lights (big intersection) and go west on Armour Rd. Keep going west past a stop sign and a small set of lights or two and get to the first big intersection (which is North Convent St. or also called Routes 45/52)... turn right (north) on N. Convent (there's a gas station on your left as you are about to turn right onto Convent, by the way); go a few blocks north (there will, to your right, be a small field and suddenly a road going to a small set of stores)... directly opposite of that (as you are going north on Convent) is Bethel Dr. (to your left); take Bethel Dr. west, going past a couple of stop signs. Then, as you continue to go west on Bethel... look for the soccer fields on your left, before you get to Career Center Rd.

Nick and I are going to try to come out just to fly, not ready for team yet but getting better. I have to work til 7 AM and be back at 10 PM that night so not sure what time we'll get there as I have to find some time to sleep. Hope to see you there.

Aha. That's the one I have marked on my map as "Bourbonnais Soccer Field."

I'll get there as early as I can, but for me, that's not going to be until maybe 10:30.

Mike and Chris, Just wanted to say had a good time this morning. Wish the winds would have stayed up. Thanks for the help and Mike thanks for letting Zack fly your kite. Nice to meet you Jeff, hope we can fly together sometime soon.

This was a great day.... Mike and the kids, Jeff, me and Mike.

The wind finally picked up around 11:30 and after our incredibly greezy McDonalds lunch, and we had a fantastic time free flying and working on some of the mega fly moves. We also spent a bit of time working on speed control which should be very helpful for our mega flies in the future...

Jeff has really come along in this past month and did a great job flying. His practice really showed.

We will be doing this again!

Boy oh boy, it was a ton of fun today. I flew from 8 am until after 6 pm stopping only briefly to wolf down a burger.
We had nice winds and a beautiful blue sky with just a few puffy clouds for texture.
And to top it all off, good friends to fly with.

A perfect way to spend the day.
Thanks guys.

Thanks, that was fun.

It was great to get some team flying experience. I have an even better idea about what areas I need to get better at. It's one thing to practice the stuff from the book by yourself, but quite another thing once you get together and have to control your speed and deal with the other lines.
