:-D The reference is to the wonderful 5 book "trilogy" by Douglas Adams.

This is truly one of my favorites books ever... I watched the series that was on PBS several times, read the book and listened to it on audio...

Vogon poetry just slayed me, Marvin was wonderfully depressed and the Bugblatter Beast Of Trall was my daughter about a year ago when she covered her head and told me I couldn't see her...

I actually had the opportunity to meet and talk with Douglas Adams in 1983 soon after Infocom published their Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy text adventure game... This is one of my favorite 'Brush with greatness' that I've had... second only to the opportunity to have a virtually personal concert by the Tubes and the chance to hang with them for an entire evening...

What do you think?

I'm rather surprised at how strong a completed tetrahedron cell is and in groups, it is very strong... the thing that needs to be worked out is how the tubing is held together. Standard nylon ties don't hold well enough IMHO. Chris suggested using nylon ties that have a metal springclip in them and I think this would work better. If I can get my tywrap gun tension proper, I could probably get a better squeeze on the tubes. But, this is the weakest part of the system, especially when pulling the spreaders for transporting the kite as the tubes tent to pull out of the tywrap... much of this has to do with the tubs thinning out when the are bent to position.

I also need to get some hardwood dowels from Steve as my Lowes dowels are really rather crappy...

Considering that some of the schools are making these out of straws, string and tissue paper and combing the cells into 100 cell kites....

Video From Club Fly

Postby Jeff » Mon, Mar 26 2007, 09:27 AM

Here's some video and photos that I took on Saturday.

Just imagine if we actually had any wind! If only we could have had today's weather.

I uploaded it to Google Video, so that impacts the quality some...I can't very well upload a 500MB file for people to download. :P

It runs 4:17.

What a wonderful video! Nice editing!
Looking forward to seeing more. It will be cool to see what you come up with when you have wind to work with!

Thanks guys, I can't wait to get some festival footage. :-)

I understand the IKE logo is your creation, Mike. I've done a few cool animations with it that I think you might like...

Cool!!!!

Let's hope for good weather for Sycamore. I'll make the drive and bring a bunch of T-shirts so we'll look good on the next video.

Chris,
what's up with your new Avatar? A new kite design? It would be cool.
