It is the rubber grip for one of a set of new, really BIG rev handles.

My guess is that it is a carbon tube. It might be aimed at the kite surfing market.

In his right hand is a ferrule, maybe carbon, for a Super Blast 4-8.
In his left hand is a stainless ferrule for the early REV I and II's from about the era 1989-1992.
