*NEW DOG.STK. DESIGN*

Postby Hector Herrera » Sat, Jan 27 2007, 05:25 PM

As promised!!!
My new Dog Stake design was meant to do this flying technic easier. My idea is that we have four lines and it just didn't make sense to me, to have only two rings togheter and four lines in the same ring hole...???
That original design (as I experienced myself) put to much of a drag on the lines...
cause they were all together...???
So to make simple solutions, I decided to make a !!! FOUR RING STAKE !!! one for each line...???
Does it make sense?
take a look at the following pictures.

Unfortunatly...there was not enough wind to do the testing with the new design, but I guess it is good enough for you guys to make your own conclusions about the idea. I hope you like it and maybe other fellow kite fliers will follow the idea.

TODAY...was the first time I experienced the wind going from west to east and I could do a little flying that ...
"I REALLY ENJOYED VERY MUCH".

I think I am happy man.
Thank God.

Hector, I love those photos of the kite in the ocean. Very cool.
I haven't done much in the way of dog-staking so I can't judge your design. It is a unique idea and I'll be interested to see how it works out when you get the chance to try it.
If it works, make sure to show it to John Baressi and let him try it. He'll be at kite party and is real good at dog-staking.

Interesting concept, Hector. Bottom line is does it work? Seems like a lot of extra trouble, but if it makes the lines run with less resistance, might be worth it. I have a basic dog stake, but haven't used it much.

Looking forward to your experiences with this.

Now I get it. I haven't seen the performance in person, but I did see a video on the web somewhere. John Baressi performs a dog-stake routine to "Werewolf in London".
Start practicing Hector and go get him!

Hmmm, how about two or more quad fliers dogstaking together. That would be quite a routine! And probably lot's of bloodshed in learning the routine! :-D

Hector

Your design is very much like one I used last June at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa. It was made by Eric Wilson. I flew his RevI using 200" lines. That makes for a wide window, making it a little easier to learn. I flew for about half an hour and was still not comfortable standing behind the kite. It's very strange.

I have seen John do his Wolfman dogstake routine a number of times, WSIKF, Brookings, Berkeley, and Crescent city in 2005, where I first tried using John's kite and stake. Only tried there for a few minutes as I didn't want to break John's RevI. John was usung only two loops made from ceramic fishing rod eyes. They have very little friction on the lines. The problem with only two is that line twists don't stay on the kite side of the stake, making them impossible to undo. He was planning to add two more loops.

Go for it, Jim

Hector

I'm affraid so. Eric Wilson has been flying for some years. His dog stake looked several years old and has had lots of use. It is very much like yours, but welded to a steel stake and can be driven two or three feet into the ground. His rings are all in a row, and quite close together. Probably works in sand as well.

Whooeee, you better start practicing Hector! You've got quite a bunch of folks ready to check it out!
I'll probably be on the beach by Wednesday the 21st, so if you get a day off and can come to H.B. before the official start of the party maybe we can fly together and you can get some practice in before the Wolf arrives.

I know...I have not been able to get me 150' lines yet. Penny sugested two set attached to each other in the mean time.

By the way Mike, I know you are one of the Mass quad team, can you somehow enlist me, just to have my name there...???just to show to my friends and relatives, You know!

yeah..I realized the turmoil created, and it's of outmost importance for me to get some practice, at least to get the kite of the ground.

I always said "even the bad times are good"...at where I work I was called yesterday, and was told there is no work all the rest of the week, and I also had another job interview yesterday. so I have a few day to practice. It seems like the new company will hire me.
Ho...yes this idea of the signature sound good, I guess you noticed that I kind of promoted IKE.

Damm...I need practice, practice, practice...just the dog staking thing...

See what I got myself into...

ONE THING I KNOW FOR SURE..."THEY CAN'T KILL WHAT IS ALLREADY DEAD". :|

Hi Hector,
As far as the mega-quad team, John is personally putting folks on the list and I don't have any control over that.
I don't really know John, I've only met him and flew with him the one time, last year at Kite Party.
Maybe after he sees you fly at Kite Party he will put you on the team.

Hector, it is official!
Over on the GWTW forum, your name is on the list for the mega-fly:
http://161.58.176.189/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31911

That makes 3 IKE members on the mega-team:
Jim, Hector, and myself.

Should be pretty crazy with that many fliers. The Lummas' might not make it, but it sounds like Ben and Joe from Revolution might be there, so either way, there will be 64 kite lines getting tangled.

Should be a lot of fun!

It did not rain in Los Angeles area, and I was enthusiastic about trying the new dog stake design...!
My first impresion is that it 4 rings are better than 2.
I was able to maintain the kite up in the air, it was very weird, to see it so close, and yet so far, about how to control it, the winds were too much, I think they were about 15 to 20 miles PH and I could not handle it that well.
Let's remember I AM A ROOKIE, in these kind of kite flying.
Later after the dog stake experience, I flew my kite without the stake, and...man... piece of cake, you know.
Here is a picture of what strong winds did to the 14 inches nail.
I definitly will make something longer and stronger, to avoid any accidents, cause that thing may fly away...
