He looks like one of my parrots :!: No wonder he likes flying :!: i'll bring peanuts for him, at the next Fly!

By the way, did anyone notice the mammoth and majestic eagle that was hovering way above us at the Jan. 27th Fly :?: Or were you guys too mesmerized by your own flying abilities? :wink: Anyway, the magnificent bird showed up more than once... and i shouted for people to look at it... but i don't know if anyone heard me. This was a exquisite flying machine; it was no mere hawk!... this was either a Bald or a Golden Eagle. It was definitely not a Turkey Vulture. There are a good number of Bald Eagles in the Kankakee River system area... and it was most likely one of those. It was too high up to identify... but it was definitely huger than huge! Hawks and eagles are very aware of man-made kites... and like to watch them from a distance (from above); they (the hawks and eagles) are commonly seen by me when flying in the Kankakee area.

By the way, i lived in western Kansas for 3 years, and Turkey Vultures are indigenous to that area. They, because of the many road kills (that must taste like my mother-in-law's cooking) have greatly expanded their territory... and now happily live here in Illinois; they are neat in their own cadaverous but smooth-sailing way! i've been seeing a lot of hawks and falcons on the way to work lately! 8)

from E. E. Cummings:

The Eagle

1

It was one of those clear,sharp,mistless days
That summer and man delight in.
Never had Heaven seemed quite so high,
Never had earth seemed quite so green,
Never had the world seemed quite so clean
Or sky so nigh.
And I heard the Deity's voice in
The sun's warm rays,
And the white cloud's intricate maze,
And the blue sky's beautiful sheen.

2

I looked to the heavens and saw him there,--
A black speck downward drifting,
Nearer and nearer he steadily sailed,
Nearer and nearer he slid through space,
In an unending aerial race,
This sailor who hailed
From the Clime of the Clouds.--Ever shifting,
On billows of air
And the blue sky seemed never so fair,
And the rest of the world kept pace.

3

On the white of his head the sun flashed bright;
And he battled the wind with wide pinions,
Clearer and clearer the gale whistled loud,
Clearer and clearer he came into view,--
Bigger and blacker against the blue.
Then a dragon of cloud
Gathering all its minions
Rushed to the fight,
And swallowed him up in a bite;
And the sky lay empty clear through.

4

Long I watched. And at last afar
Caught sight of a speck in the vastness;
Ever smaller,ever decreasing,
Ever drifting,drifting awayInto the endless realms of day;
Finally ceasing.
So into Heaven's vast fastness
Vanished that bar
Of black,as a fluttering star
Goes out while still on its way.

5

So I lost him. But I shall always see
In my mind
The warm,yellow sun,and the ether free;
The vista's sky,and the white cloud trailing,
Trailing behind,--
And below the young earth's summer-green arbors,
And on high the eagle,--sailing,sailing
Into far skies and unknown harbors.

I saw the bird, but didn't realize it was an eagle. I agree it wasn't a vulture by the way it flew but I couldn't see the wings well enough to see that it was an eagle.

Nice poem too.

That Eagle poem was written by E. E. Cummings when he was a kid, from the Cambridge Latin School years; he must have been only around 15 at the time.

PHOTOS OF THE MEMBERSHIP AND OTHERS: "all togheter"
On January 27th you guys had a terrific time and I was wondering if ANYONE could take some pictures of all IKE members, at one of those Club flies, that way we can recognise them. At least for me it would be nice to see the real faces behind those amazing avatars, those photos, will also serve as remembrances of how you look then, and 10 or 20 years from now, when the club wil have thousands of members. :LogoRevAni:

Awesome idea Hector!!!--I think the best thing to do, would be ALL members of IKE who would like to participate, send personal pictures to the album(we'll set up an album category for this alone) Then when we get our web page up and running (hint, hint :wink: ) we can put a face to IKE :up: :up:

We can also start to take group pics at club flys and festivals and post them on the web!

Thanks for throwing that out there Hector, the thought never even occurred to me :wallb:

I don't know why I didn't think of that...

We should ALWAYS have a group photo done at our club flys... ALWAYS!

Should have a group shot from every club fly. That way we came also see how big the club grows.
