DuKane area club fly Aug 19 or 20
Been quiet here, as is usual, during the high summer, but was wondering if anyone is interested in club fly this weekend? Timing is flexible,

I was hoping somewhere out west, but depending on my schedule and the wind, I could be convinced to travel. I'm selling my house so it all depends on if I have a showing or not.

Hello, sorry for not replying sooner . . . . I've been out of touch for a few days. I'd be up for a fly, but I'm probably leaving town early for the eclipse. I might be around on the 19th depending on weather projections & how far I'll have to drive for clear skies on Monday.

No need to run away Steve. The eclipse won't hurt you unless you stare at it.

Bill, where are you headed? I'm also going for totality, likely West. We could have a club fly during totality!

Boonville, Missouri. Made Sunday reservations about 11 months ago. Hope the weather holds.

Carbondale, Il. is darn near dead center of totality, and at 2 minutes and 40 seconds almost maximum duration. Also the shortest and most direct driving time from this area. Of course that will probably make it the most crowded also.

Crowded there is exactly why I chose not to go downstate. But I suspect it will be crowded just about anywhere. 2 minutes and 39 seconds of totality in the Boonville area.

Same here regarding crowding. I'm considering anyplace along the line between about Grand Island, Nebraska and Kentucky. I figure the population is lower in Nebraska, and the climate there tends drier. But the final weather forecast is going to be the deciding factor. I've actually been to Boonville way back in the early '90s.

I have 2 confirmed showings for Saturday, so that's out for me. That makes Sunday questionable. I'll let you know.
Oregon State doesn't go back for another month, but my son is going back to campus for the eclipse. Corvallis, OR is basically ground zero. I'm not sure about this plan, but he said they're hanging out at the fraternity house (He is now a frat brother) and going on the roof. I'm hoping he meant deck...roof deck. BTW, the family is already in Portland, so he's not flying out from here just for the eclipse. The traffic is already horrendous and Oregon is calling out the national guard to help with the influx of 10's of thousands of transients for this. To hear my wife talk about it, people are treating it like a holiday and not going to work because everyone is worried about traffic. I-5 is the only interstate that goes N-S. Portland is basically full eclipse. They're getting 99.7% obscuration

Anyonetrvelling west, I'd check the weather to see the propability of clear skies. Weather.com was calling lots of cloud cover west. i.e. KS, MO. Maybe KY, TN would be better

I'm just getting up early and driving south. Worst case, I'm sitting in traffic with a bunch of other people in the dark with a cloudy sky :)
