That you with the white ghost? I turned back to grab my parafoil. :)

Four of us showed up. Dave, Todd, Brian and myself.
Gusty, weird omni-directional wind.

The only ones of any importance.

It was not well attended. Chicago Kite had several larger kites aloft in the football/track area. But maybe only a dozen other kites were up at any one time.

Well, it's the first year. Plus it was a cold and very windy day, so maybe families decided to stay indoors . . . and/or you are competing with fall sports leagues.
Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
I've been too busy. Thanks for the photos Bill. I will say that there were plenty of families, just in other parts of the fields. They were able to use the entire grassy area on the side of the middle school, the football field and the new park which are probably close to 20 acres in all. There were cars coming and going until late afternoon. We had plenty of space to spread out, but the high winds, dreary sky and lower temps probably did more to limit peoples participation than the scheduled activities. I had two kites with minor damage and broke two 250lb lines, so it was probably too windy for anything other than Xtra vents.

What were you flying that broke the 250 lb line?
Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
I agree with Steve and Todd that the weather probably had a big influence on the lack of kite flyers. It's a nice area, though and should be a candidate for any local IKE flys.

We've flown there several times. It's the home field for tmadz & swannie.

Yep I flew there with y'all this Spring with snow on the ground. Now the Park District has expanded to an area to the east which adds to the kite flying possibilities.

Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
I had a 11ft ghost and a Gomberg sled up. The lines got crossed, but one got cut near the top of the line and one actually snapped at the stake. The wind was very unstable and gusty. I usually wouldn't have worried about the line strength, but they broke at the same time which was really weird. Bill, possibly a really localized microburst? The school had lighting rods along the edge of the roof so I freaked out, but good kites floated a long way and no damage.
