Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
My Summer obligations are over and I haven't flown in two months. Anyone willing to get together in the DuKane area for a fly?

Maybe. Dependent on the better half's approval. I have a lot of flying coming up in September/October between festivals and the retreat, so we'll see what she has to say.

Re: Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
So the wife is working on Saturday, which means I might be able to get out for a few hours with no impact . . . . haven't suggested Sunday. I'll have to keep an eye on the wind forecast. Was wishing I could get out today, but that was not possible due to work & lawn.
Re: Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
Wind both days looks good. Saturday looks drier, but either is still good for me.

We are game either day.

Location? I'm thinking maybe St Charles East Side tomorrow afternoon. I won't free up until noon at the earliest, so I probably would not be out there until 1:30 or 2 pm. I know it's not that close for you tmadz, but maybe we'd entice some of the northern guys to show up . . . .
Re: Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
will be there at 1 30

I can be there between 1:30 and 2. Gotta do some things first.

I read the entire St. Charles Park District Rules and Regulations, and the only prohibited kiting activity is making an ascent on or in one. In other words, riding the kite.

Yep, that's pretty much what I thought. But it's a losing argument at the moment without the regulations in hand. I had the exact same discussion with a forest preserve cop about four years ago.
So perhaps we need to print that page of the regs and keep them in our bags.

Print the whole thing, high-light the kite part. Actually, if you read the part about team sports, basketball, soccer, etc., you could say they were violating more regs than we were. You could say that playing soccer is more dangerous than flying kites, with that "compressed-air-launched" missile hurtling uncontrolably all over the place, that could hit a bystander in the head. The kid who lives two doors south of me plays soccer and broke his leg, multiple fractures while playing this Spring. The cast came off two weeks ago. Never heard of a kiter breaking a leg, other than power kiters, maybe.
Also, they are not allowed to interfere with any "legal" activity in which you may be engaged. So you could technically be sitting there watching the grass grow and complain that the soccer game is interfering with that and ask them to stop the game or move the game elsewhere. Seriously, read the team sports section.

And just to add more fuel to the fire, shouldn't they have a copy of the regulations with them? So, we could have said "show me where it says that!"

Yeah, not an argument you can win during the moment.... Best answer is to have a copy with us.... And be polite.
Re: Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
So, is this happening? I'm going to try and go. I've barely flown all summer.

Re: Aug 22 or 23 quick fly
I guess it happened yesterday. And I gather the guys are now out on bail.
I was out of town yesterday but can probably meet today if you find a venue.
