I tried to refer to Richard Claycomb in a message in Rose's thread about building kites for kids. The forum software changed the four-letter nickname by which he prefers to be addressed (which is also slang for male anatomy) to the word, "disk."
Is this part of the board's built-in anti-profanity feature? If so, is the prohibition of the use of Richard's nickname intentional?
Can't use Richard's common nickname here

Testes testing -- Dick -- Testes testing.
Yes, it does. It seems to have no problem with testicles. I did capitalize it. Apparently has an issue with upper case four-letter words. Fuck.
Look, it turned the f-word into a period. Its almost like having to learn another language!

Dick!
I don't think we've run into this problem before.
Try this:
Click on "Profile" at the top of this page
Click on the "Board Preferences" Tab
Click on "Edit Display Options" (it's on the left)
Click "No" for "Enable Word Censoring"
Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
Does that work? Now behave....

Shit, it's more fun watching it translate.

Re: Can't use Richard's common nickname here
For those of you offended by profanity, don't make the change and you won't see it.
Re: Can't use Richard's common nickname here
I think I'll leave censoring on, not because I'm concerned about being offended (I'm not offended that easily) but because I want to know how my messages will look to those users who leave it on. Had I previously turned censoring off, I would have never known that for some users, my message would have read "disk Claycomb."

That's a good idea, Jay.
Also, Dick will now show up.
In fact most all words will show up. Only a few are censored; probably when this board was first set up years ago and we were playing with the features. The Dick/Disk thing was probably one of the original administrators idea of a joke. All the founding members of the club were admins when board started and there was a lot of goofing around.

I assumed there was a list that admins could edit. Good for you for allowing us to refer to our friend by his chosen nickname again!

I loved Kirk Douglas in that role. One of my favorite movies.
"I'm Dick."
"I'm Dick"
"I am Dick."
"I'm Dick."
