Great lakes Kite Festival May 16-18

Postby TMadz » Wed, Apr 02 2014, 05:20 PM

My wife is apparently in a spectacular mood and was talking about the whole family going up with me for this festival for an overnighter. I warned her that I would be flying most of the time.

Is anyone else planning on making this festival? I know Milwaukee is the weekend after, which I won't be able to make.

As usual, lovely wife and are are spending the Friday night and Saturday night at the Blue Water Inn across the road from the beach.
I decided I needed a signature line, so I wrote this.

I think we are planning on going. Not sure if the whole family is going yet, but Shari and I probably will.

Sigh, I've been trying to go to this for 3 years now, and I just don't think it's in the cards this year either...

Dress Warm if your coming to GLKF this year!! we had two days of 70 degrees and the rest of the week is reported to be in the 50's with a chance of rain fog mix. we have had flyable winds just no cooperative sun. Saturday and sunday we have been promised sun by the weather man.

Nice! How do you anchor something like this? I don't mess around with SLK much...

Massively . . . . . AWESOME!!!

I really like those Bols - they are real crowd pleaser pieces. I'm guessing you are on the show kite field.

swannie - I think it's probably a BIG sand anchor - i.e. a big bag you fill with wet sand. Some people use the big tent stakes (with a second for safety), but they can be dangerous if they pull loose.

Or you could use the anchor they use for this 26 meter bol

And here is what happens when you don't have enough anchor:

Not enough anchor . . .

Fast forward to about 1:20 if you want to see what happens . . . . .

WOW!

I won't be at Grand Haven this year, but it's usually better when the weather is cooler. The cool weather means no one is tanning on the beach and much more room for kite fliers!
