Question on making custom handles

Postby swannie » Tue, Jul 16 2013, 06:53 AM

Hey guys,

I can't justify spending $60 on a set of no-snag handles when I've got the skills and most of the material already in my garage to make them ... so I've decided to make them. :) One question I have is the type of line used on the leaders? I looked at a set of handles and it looks like line sleeving to me, but is there any spectra within? I couldn't tell on any of the handles that I have.

Thanks!
Brian

Talk to Mikey (Darkspark) - or you can PM him here on the forum. He makes awesome no-snag handles. You can ask him what he charges. I think the leaders are made of braided dacron.

Thanks Steve! I do make handles if you are interested in going that route. I have a bunch of different color grips. And I just recently acquired the equipment to powder coat the metal. If you want to make your own I would be more than happy to give you some tips. I use 100lb braided dacron bridal line for my leaders. Doubled over. If you have any question PM me, and I can shoot you my phone number.

Also, if you are on facebook look me up. I have some photos of my handles there.

Of course, half the fun is making them myself... ;) Thanks for the tip on the bridal line, I just bought some and that is what I shall use. :)

Swannie - I just noticed your location. TMadz is also from Sugar Grove, but he's often too busy to fly as he just started a new coffee shop this year. Maybe you can connect with him some time.

I'm surprised I haven't bumped into him locally, actually ... maybe he knows a better local field then the one I go to. :)

I'm here. Just been lurking lately. No spare time to fly this year.

PM me Swannie and I can tell you a couple of good places to fly.
