January Club Fly--when?

Postby Mike » Thu, Dec 28 2006, 07:03 PM

Time to schedule our next club fly, ladies and gentlemen.
What days of the week are good for you? Saturdays? Sundays?
Based on the replies and where in the world they come from, we'll pick the next fly date and place.

Saturdays or Sundays are best for me.

Based on the DRYDAY® Planning forecasts Guide... January 6th is the best chance for a rain-free weekend. Martin Luther King Day, according to this Guide which claims to be 85% accurate, is likely to be wet.

I'm good for either Saturday or Sunday
It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

Sunday will be out for me as I am schedules to play at church every week in Jan. If we are flying close to home, that would be different but I wouldn't get there until about 1pm.

Probably a Sat would be best for me.

I will be working weekends in January so I will not be able to make the fly. But I will be helping a friend at KTAI, so it evens out.

Yes, I will be helping David and Susie again this year. I will ask Lollie about the pictures. There are rules, rarely followed, about taking pictures on the trade show floor. I don't expect it will be a problem. Who knows, maybe I will even fly it.

I'm leaning towards Saturday the 27th in the Kankakee area.

If it's the weekend of the 27th I'm off and should be able to make it. (if I ever get my lines untangled from the last time out!)

The 27th should be fine by me. Also it gives everybody around 3 weeks to plan accordingly.

I will also be able to have "Gus" with me, as he should be done this weekend. He can now see, having giving him his eyes earlier tonight. :-) Will post pictures when done. :-)

Since I gave up the December fly to watch Elie, I should be able to get Jenny to watch her for this one...

Count me in..

I have a few things I want to fly for the group and hopefully, a few more things that I can build before them!

OK, the date sounds good.
How about location?
Is Perry Farms ok? Tom is the soccer field really that much better?
Draftnik, do you think you will make it?
And Brent, how about you?

We'll see when the date gets a little closer. We're still recovering from the holidays, it may take me all month to wanna get out and do anything agian. :) Most likely, I'll be in a different frame of mind by then.

Unless, at Perry Farm, the wind is blowing directly from the west, IMHO the soccer field is much better. So much so that if you guys will be at Perry Farm, and the wind is not out of the west, i will probably show up for a while, but will likely move on and go to the soccer field. It's nothing against you guys; i love flying with you... but what is most important to me is tricking and improving on the tricks... and Perry Farm is, the more that i get experienced, pretty much the last place on my list for flying. The trees just produce way too much turbulence and undercurrent at that location... being surrounded on 3 of 4 sides by tall trees. When i fly there i am amazed at how unresponsive the kites become!

There are some trees and homes especially at one end of the soccer fields; but those fields are so large that one can get significantly away from them; plus the wind usually blows from directions where there are no trees. There are other fields, besides the soccer fields and the Microtek field, especially in the Bourbonnais area, that may be very good and that are near busy roads (like the soccer fields) with a lot of traffic, if you guys want exposure. i've flown at some of them a time or two, but am not very familiar with those potential locations. They are near the soccer fields... and i think that Route 45, in Bourbonnais, has a number of them.

If you guys like Perry Farm, by all means hang out there. i'll still be flying with you at festivals and such now and then. Whatever you decide is OK with me.

I guess that's all the feedback were gonna get here.
Let's try the soccer field. Tom, can you tell us where it is? Maybe link to a google map?
