And you too...I already miss all you guys terribly, even though we didn't get together frequently enough while I was in Illinois.

I haven't had a chance to fly out here yet, maybe this weekend. We're still partially buried in moving boxes and stuff that doesn't have a proper place yet.

From the FB pictures, you have a pretty big flying field behind your house . . .

I think you can wait on all those boxes. Just get the kites out . . . I'm sure your wife will understand. If you are looking for a place for the kite bag, you can keep it next to the back door of the house, so it will be easy to find it when there's wind . . . . :-D

Yeah...that area might be a little iffy. Don't really want to roam randomly through tall brush...might find a rattlesnake.

Two words: riding mower. Solves both issues.

Rattlesnakes will run away, I wouldn't worry about them at all. Even if you surprise one, and I've come across many of them, they'll announce their presence pretty loudly and you can change direction. I've even stepped on one without consequence. On the other hand, I hate the tics that hang out in tall grass!

Please note that I do not endorse Mike's "step on the rattlesnake" method of scaring them away. :jester: YMMV.

P.S. Your profile still says "Round Lake" :(

Lynn and I have been here in Long Beach Washington since July 27th. We have had rain several times, but only at night. The past few days have been clear with plenty of sunshine and nice wind. We have flown SULs, standard sails, vented sails and Xtra vents, although full vents would have been OK. We have been on the beach in "T" shirts with a light wind breaker as well as sweat shirts with heavy jackets.
We have flown from one to five hours every day. Today we had seven in line, Bob Oliver whom most of you do not know, but will meet, John Farrell, Tom King, Bill Seward from near South Padre Island Texas, Gerry Rolls from Sandy Oregon, Lynn and myself.
Several of us are going to the World Kite Museum tomorrow morning to help cut sails etc. to get ready for the kite making activities sponsored by the museum.

We have been amused every day by people driving out onto the beach who should not be driving out onto the beach. Some, even with four wheel drive, get themselves buried in the soft sand. We wonder "What were they thinking", then realize that they weren't.

Anxious for you all to arrive.

Cheers, Jim and Lynn

Thanks for the update! You are making us all jealous, but we will join you soon. I'm really looking forward to it. One week from now, I'll be in Seattle anxiously waiting for the rest of the crew to arrive. We should see you Wednesday morning on the beach. BTW, where do you park during the festival?

There is a lot between town and the beach. There will be signs directing you to it, get there before 9am, it does fill up. Parking passes are available to fliers allowing parking at the beach, however, that area fills up by 7am, is closed at 9am, and you can not move out until 5pm. We have used it in the past, but not this year.

FYI to everyone going to WSIKF - just looked at the weather forecast, and it's calling for "highs" near 60 as far out as it goes, and lows in the mid 50s. Gotta love the impact of the ocean on air temperature. I'll be packing a windbreaker/shell and some fleece . . . and vented kites.

Brrrr.
BTW, this is funny:
I just did an image search on "WSIKF 2013" and look at what shows up as a highly rated image. Look familiar Steve?

That is hilarious!

Looks like I need to change my profile pic to something more kite related. Glad though that we are getting some google search goodness.

For those IKEr's that could not make it to WSIKF 2013 - wish you were here. It's been a fun three days for us so far, and yesterday we set a new world record for number of Revolutions flying together. There's a photo (and some videos) over on Facebook anbd probably on YouTube. Here's a link to a photo taken by fellow IKE member Anne Stephenson. Thanks Anne!

If you were in the 9 X 9 matrix at WSIKF, John Mitchell is putting together a name vs position chart on the facebook thread.

I posted Big Mike's position ... right beside me and goofing off the whole time. Plus Jim Foster who was right behind me. And, Lynn's position ... she was right beside Jim when we split up into the initial columns of five. I couldn't remember where the rest of the IKE folks ended up.

BTW ... Jo Ann commented that our end of the matrix was quite steady during the flying. Guess flying in gusty Midwestern winds paid off after all.

Cheers,
Tom
