Club Fly - Black Flyday? 11/23/2012

Postby goestoeleven » Sat, Nov 17 2012, 10:48 PM

Had too much fun at Montrose today, I just think we need another day this year . . . .

Maybe we can have a club fly on Friday the 23rd. Tentative location: Ned Brown / Busse Woods Forest Preserve. Great field, central location for the Chicago and suburban area fliers. The only downside is the proximity to the mall - which will mean lots of traffic on Black Friday. Tentative times - 10am - 3 pm. That will let us pack up before it gets dark, and anyone with commitments for the evening can get home before it gets too late.

Let's watch the weather . . .

Who's in?

I'm in as long as the black flys aren't biting.

I am angling to make it. Lord knows the last thing I want to do is spend money on Black Friday. Right now the weather looks cold with winds near 20. I can do the cold, but I was hoping for a little lighter winds to loft the sled and some launry.

PS I was hoping some of the shoppers would be tuckered out by then since they'll start shopping about 12 hours earlier and all.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Among other things, I'm thankful for all the friends I've made while kite flying, and through this forum.

One day to go to the Black Flyday!

Looks like the forecast is for cold (air temps around freezing) and wind (22 mph w/ gusts to 30), which means wind chill temps around 18 - 20 degrees. Maybe I should rename the club fly to "Fly till you Freeze!"

I'm still planning to go to Busse - but I will probably only fly my vented Revs if the forecast is correct (no SLKs) because I don't want to lose anything or bust any spars or rip any sails.

I,m gonna be there. I hope the forecast is not as accurate as they say, and it turns out to be a bit warmer.

We are out here! Boy is it COLD but there is LOTS of wind!!

Say, David and his son Daniel are here but I don't know how long we will last. It's very cold in the wind and too windy for slk kites.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys. I ended up having a 2.5 hr meeting. Too windy for me anyway. I don't have any vented kites. I hope we can do it again soon. The cold isn't a problem, just wind that's too high.

I was not dressed properly for it. It wasn't that cold, but with the strong winds, it was a bitter windchill. Next time, I'll be ready. Otherwise, we had fun, we got back Say's spinnner from the evil "kite eating" tree and flew "vents" all afternoon. Let's do it agaiiiiiiiiiiiiin.

Looks like a nice field.
I decided I needed a signature line, so I wrote this.

Well it was cold for sure, but it was nice to be out flying with other people instead being by myself. It was nice flying with David, his son, and Steve. Well we have to do it again soon, but for now here is a video of me flying the sun delta in the front of my house.
