I had a great time. Thanks for all the warm welcomes and hospitality, everyone. Thanks for the Rev lesson, Mike ... I was starting to get the hang of it near the end of the day. Thanks to 180 Go! for the pizza. Looking forward to seeing you all at various events next season!

Peggy and I usually get to Airwaves in Cincy (although that event is iffy for 2013) and you can count on us at Great Lakes Kite Festival.

Keep your eyes on the Hoosier Kitefliers Society website for a nice little one-day festival in Shipshewana of north central Indiana. I've been that event's announcer for the past two years. It's been held the last weekend in April but I haven't heard yet about 2013.

You're welcome, 11. I hope you can use some of the shots in your presentation to the kite collector's widow.

And be sure to let me know when you're ready to get rid of some of those kites ... I might be interested in relieving you of one, depending on the price!

Stan is a man of the world... he travels from household to household(usually family and close friends) and goes on trips and adventures with them. He has been photographed all over the world and the pictures are sent back to a young family member with a short description of each adventure to be collected into a book sometimes as a report for school.

you have not truly seen the world until you have been to an IKE EVENT! and flown on a REV!

Had a great time flying with all the new and old faces. Good kites, good times, really great people. Thanks to everyone who made it and made it possible. Is it too early to reserve for next year? If we start planning it now then .......

Thanks to everyone for the camaderie, flying and fun. My son Brendan had a great time and was excited to fly a Rev. He did well since he wasn't ruined by dual line hand movements like me. He's been asking for Rev now. This is what is happening to my...

Just kidding. Maybe we'll have a rev in the house to fly with people at the next club fly.
We're already marking off the last weekend of September for next year. :thanks:

Well, if we're planning for next year already, how about bumping it up a little bit to the 21st and 22nd of September. That's guessing that the Quad Cities kite festival will not find another James Patten to organize it ... it'll go the way of other small, but really neat festivals.

Oh yes, the bump forward is highly personal ... then I'd be able to attend!!!

Cheers,
Tom

Don't think the date has been set yet for the 2013 AKA convention but having IKE one week earlier might improve the chances that people could attend both AKA and IKE. I was going to invite some friends to attend IKE this year until I realized they'd be busy packing for and/or traveling to AKA.

That seems ok to me. Tentatively, we'll plan it for 9/21 -9/22. But we'll have to see how it meshes with the Wisconsin and Indiana kite clubs as well as other festivals.

In fact, there might be some wisdom in waiting until a few months out to find out what date works for the majority of people, as you did this year.

WRT HKS, I can tell you that the Merritt Beck Memorial Fun Fly in Muncie is traditionally the Saturday after Labor Day. IIRC, that was the only September event on the HKS calendar this year. Their (our) Oct. 6 fly this year is probably a one-time thing, since its in conjunction with a company's anniversary celebration (their 25th, IIRC).

I'll let you know when HKS releases its 2013 calendar.
