I've yet to meet a kite flier in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois or Wisconsin who wasn't ridiculously welcoming and hospitable. I think you have nothing to worry about.

I knew that. I just wanted to use the comment as a springboard to describe my own experience with kite people!

I'll do my best Rich C. intro to quad-lining for Bill  :jester:

Just kidding (wish Rich was coming as well). I'll play nice . . . and I'll be too busy setting up SLKs anyway.

I'm sorry, but I feel like a high schooler. I'm very excited to get out and fly with a bunch of people. It's like we're making the day after prom party plans. I don't know what it'll be like with so many kiters in one location, not there for a festival. Hoping for some good winds.

Wind forecasts this far in advance are quite unreliable, but here's what the NWS is saying for Chesteron:

From 9 a.m. Saturday, 5 miles per hour from the East-northeast (along the shoreline), becoming more northerly (more off the lake) and increasing to 6 MPH by 2 p.m. and 8 MPH by 5 p.m., holding at 8 MPH until 8 p.m.

Morning winds on Sunday don't look as good. 3 MPH from the northeast until 2 p.m., when they increase to 5 MPH and become more northerly. Increasing to 8 MPH by 5 p.m. and 9 MPH by 8 p.m.

These wind forecasts are notoriously inaccurate this far in advance, so the winds could end up being much better.

Sky and temperature forecasts for both days are sunny with highs near 68.

You can't look at forecasts until 24 hours in advance and even then the timing of the winds can change dramatically.

Well you can look but there's not much chance the winds will be as forecast.

One day to go! I'm psyched! I think I haven't flown anything since Mots, so it will be GREAT to get out and fly.

The weather forecast looks great:
Bring your low-wind kites and your high-wind kites. You'll get to fly everything in your bag! Woo Hoo! :)
Trick your dualies in the lighter winds, and get out the traction kites in the high wind (getting your butt dragged across the beach makes for great photos. I'm also fond of pictures of face-plants  ) .
Learn low-wind rev flying. Fly that sweet ultra vented rev in the high winds.
Of course, the wind forecast is probably wrong and the winds will be just exactly whatever you want the whole weekend!

Be sure to PM Mike for his cell phone number. If the beach is empty when you arrive, you can find out where everyone went for supper. In fact, you might wanna call him before you pay for park admission.

I have an SLE leading edge never used and maybe an extra 4-wrap you could use.
Getting car oil change and tires rotated. Must be getting ready for a road trip. What time does the beach?

Trigger: If we actually get 20mph, you'll probably want a 4-wrap frame. I have an extra.
David: I plan to get up and go, but it's 3 1/2 hours, so....

I didn't bring all my bags, but I just threw a ton of stuff into the van. I'm not even sure what all I'm bringing. But I do have Roks if folks want to do a kite battle.

Have never seen a kite battle. That could be fun.

Looks pretty definite that I'm coming for the day tomorrow. Google maps says it's a 2.75-hour drive and I'm hoping to be on the road by 8 a.m. EDT, which should easily get me into the park by 10 a.m. CDT.

We've decided that tomorrow will be our day to come. I'll be there with the family for Saturday.

Don't know when we'll get there. Hopefully not too late.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket
