Cephalopods
Cephalopods
I realized I hadn't posted any octopus/squid/cuttlefish video or photos in quite a while. So lest you guys feel something is missing from your lives, here's a video of a Blanket Octopus:

Amazing!
Never realized such an octopus existed...
Question: Seeing that they do not have 8 legs (tentacle appendages) are they still octopuses?

Wow, that is too cool.
Also, I don't know if you ever posted this here, but it was nominated for an Oscar for best animated short!

Jynx: the arms are still there, they are just webbed, so I think we can still go with Octo
There are all kinds of really cool Cephalopods, I've posted some photos and videos elsewhere on the site, but to keep things from getting confused again, I started a new thread.
Rose: I really like that animation. I don't remember if it was posted here or not, but this is a good place for it.

Re: Cephalopods
Cool! Very kite-like in the way it hovers!
i collect fossils and have a lot of cephalopod fossils. Many i have, from the Silurian period, are well over 400 million years old. i have both coiled and straight forms... and semi-coiled too. They've been around for a very long time!

Re: Cephalopods
Lots of cephs in the news this week.
Here's a real cool photo. These shots were taken within the space of 1 second as the octopus jetted away. Look how it changes both shape and color so quickly!

Re: Cephalopods
While looking at some of my cephalopod fossils in the basement, the night before last, i stumbled upon a cool meteorite that i had found in one of the quarries. It is extremely heavy for its size. Maybe i'll bring it to one of the flies for you guys to see.
You old fossils!

DEADLY sea monsters have woken from the deep to cause carnage among some of the world’s richest fishing grounds.
Millions of killer giant squid are not only devouring vast amounts of fish they have even started attacking humans.
Two Mexican fishermen were recently dragged from their boats and chewed so badly that their bodies could not be identified even by their own families.

Re: Cephalopods
Once i found a fossil section from a huge Cameroceras. These got around 30 feet long... and fed on other cephalopods and marine animals.
i also found a Cyrtoceras, which is very rare.

That's really cool:

Re: Cephalopods
This is off-topic--not about Cephs.
Check out this rare, and little known bat.
It's a tube-nosed fruit bat from Papua New Guinea
He looks like he belongs in a star wars movie or something.
Now that I've gone OT, go ahead and post your cool / cute animal photos...
