Isaac just called me from Northerly Island and said parking was no problem.
Just drive out towards the planetarium, turn right just before the building, and follow the road out to the terminal. Parking is still free and the terminal is open and has bathrooms.

Sounds like we are on for Sunday, the 19th.
Sorry for the people that can't make it that day. We have another fly the following week on Saturday in Kankakee.

Wendy, someone will have a kite for you to borrow.

...

The last time we flew there was right before a large concert. Several of our members were stopped by security and ended up parking quite far from the flying. I simply told the guy that I was going to the club kite flying that was on the end of the island ... he let me pass. So, if you get stopped, make sure you tell them you're going to "the Illinois Kite Enthusiasts club kite flying event."

Worked for me ... your mileage may vary.

Cheers,
Tom

My meeting is in Park Ridge from 1 pm to 4 pm. I can possibly drop Chris earlier and pick him up later. We might head out there to be there at 9 am instead, so I get some flying time in as well.

We are wide open on Saturday.

There is a concert Sunday night. That's not good.

Yup. Judas Priest at 7 pm at Charter One Pavilion.

They won't let us down there on a concert day.

How about Glenview for a plan B. That park is huge. It's where the annual Glenview kite fest is held.

GlenView is better for me as it is closer to my meeting.

July 19th. 11 AM.

We'll try Northerly Island again later this summer.

Hey Jeff, Could you post a link for directions.

What's the address or intersection? (For my TomTom)

As near as I can tell, from checking AYSO and Glenview PD, nothing is going on sports-wise this weekend.

Might need to call - I can call during my lunch break. (and I will)

That would be great if you could do that. The area is so large, it's hard to imagine that there wouldn't be space, but it's good to check.

I spoke with the Village of Glenview (GPD doesn't actually control Gallery Park, the Village does... not sure why), and they put me through to a Ms. Julie Gray. I left her a message - I was told she is the one who handles special events there, and she'd know if anything is scheduled. According to the Village's receptionist, though, their calendar shows no soccer, no festivals, and no other special events.

I'll post something when I hear back from Julie.

According to Julie, there is nothing scheduled for this Sunday. The 25-26 is an AYSO event, and last weekend was the end of something else, but it looks like the 19th is free and clear.

She also said "even if it isn't, you should be able to fly on the Lawn."

So it sounds like we're on for the 19th at Gallery Park!!!

Thanks Wendy!

We'll defiantly have some Revs there for you to try out.

So we're on for Glenview on the 19th.
