Milwaukee Tour De Kites July 3, 2009

Postby RevJB » Tue, Jun 30 2009, 02:26 PM

Per Jeff and Mikes earlier posts

Mike wrote:From Scott Fisher:
in Milwaukee this Friday, July 3rd, the Tour de Kites continues with a
fun fly at Veterans Park from 11 am until 6 pm, just before the giant
fireworks display. If you come and fly kites with us, you will get the best
seats in the house for the fireworks. I mean really great seats, right up
front. We will also be grilling that day, so you are certainly invited for
lunch or dinner. You will need a parking pass, so let me know if you want
to come to the LF, and I'll set aside a parking pass for you. Nearly
100,000 people will be in and around the park for this fun event, and we
want to put on a great show prior to the fireworks.

Scott is at Gift of Wings kite store

I talked to Scott and he will provide a parking pass if you call him on his cell: 414-305-3145. He did ask for carpooling wherever possible.

Thanks for getting the info John. I need to check on some things tonight to see if I can make it. Probably just for the day, not staying for fireworks, though.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

I'd like to be there, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it.
It sounds like fun and I heartily recommend it to one and all.

Did he indicate if a pass was necessary? I'm going to get there in the morning, but I won't be staying for the fireworks. I'll leave before the crowds start getting too bad.

What time were you planning on arriving?

If I can make it (I may have to work), I could just park wherever there's parking and walk in, right? Or should I call and ask for a pass?

This is my first time going to Veterans Park so I'm not the expert. You can call Scott and ask what the situation is or PM Jynx. She knows her way around up there. The all say traffic gets crazy later in the day.

I'll PM you my cell number so you can find us if you make it up there. We will be flying a black and red Rev 1.5's.

Glad to hear you survived your brush with Kryptonite.

Catspaw00,

You'll need to change your profiule to accept PMs if you want messages from forum members. No one has ever abused it with me and they don't see your email address. It is all done through the forum.

*blush* Yeah, I kind of filled out the profile stuff in a hurry, and didn't actually READ any of it. *grin* So I'll fix that right now... thanks for the heads-up.

Here's the deal for newbies on Veterans Park.

It's quite easy to get to. The only thing I don't know about is what traffic will be like. I expect to arrive in the morning so there shouldn't be a problem, but as the day goes on, I imagine that there won't be anywhere to park.

I have no idea if they are reserving parking in any particular spots.

Summerfest is also going on, so the traffic getting out of Milwaukee might be pretty tight after the fireworks.

When using online maps for driving directions, be careful...it looks like Google does not have the relatively new exit on their map that you want. The map at Bing.com is actually better.

To get there, come up on 94, and just before you hit the city you'll see the exit for the Lakefront. Exit 794 East.

Follow the road signs to the "Lakefront." The highway will end at Lincoln Memorial Drive. Turn left at the light. Drive North along the lakefront, you'll pass a couple museums and then the entrance to Veterans Park will be on the right.

Image

It would be nice to be able to park in the lot right by the store, but don't count on it. Might be reserved, I don't know. I am assuming that the open area to the north of the entrance road will be a parking lot like during the other fests.

Image

In any case, once you get out to the park, just look for kites in the air. :)

I've checked my settings - I've got it set to receive PMs, but it sounds like the system is still seeing it as a "no". :(

What should I do now? I've cleared my temp files and cookies and logged in again, and it still says that I'm set to receive PMs, so I'm not sure why I wouldn't be able to.

Strange. Should work.

Mike, Chris (admins)...if either of you are around, is there something you can check?

Catspaw... Just tried again to PM you. Did not go thru, this is the PM response:

"The user you are trying to send the PM could not receive your message because he/she decided to not receive Private Messages".
