Club Fly--Dec 13th

Postby Mike » Sun, Nov 23 2008, 10:59 AM

Club Fly: December 13th, 2008

We're trying a new spot this time:
It's a field behind the John Bearce auto dealer in Washington, IL. Jeepster's territory.

For directions, click on the Maps link at the top of this screen, or click here.

The usual time is 9-5, but in winter it may be more like 10-4.

Be sure to check back here the night before the fly, I'll post if the fly should be canceled due to icy roads.

Jeepster: where should we park? Have I marked the map correctly?

I'm in!
Tom wants us to bring some big SLKs, right?
I don't have anything real big, but I can bring the 12' delta that I had at Pontiac a few weeks ago, and the club kite has a nice big tail...

Ann and I plan on being there if the weather is ok. We will bring the big Jordan and big parafoil with its spinsock, that should stop some traffic. Will fly what the field and winds permit.

The IKE marker is right at the water tower which is in the north-east corner of the main field ... so close enough Mike. If you look at this spy photo you'll see an east-west road between Washington Rd and Constitution St. Parking along either this street (doesn't show in the Google map) or along Mt Vernon will work out well.

Need some guidance though. The main field is about 600 feet on a side. Is that enough for the larger SLKs? I've checked and we can have Constitution St closed off for the day ... just takes a letter to the local police and they'll handle it. With a wind out of the south, that would add an additional 200 feet. Would you like the road closed off?

The address for John Bearce is: 1800 Washington Rd; Washington, IL 61571

Cheers,
Tom

I updated the map, is this better?
By the way, for those who haven't used google maps much, you can click on the IKE icon on the map to get driving directions.

The weather for Saturday looks dry, above freezing, and windy. That's as good as we get for December!

Let's get a roll call:
I'll be there. It'd be nice to get a 180GO team contingent there too.

I'll be in Chicago that day. Maybe I'll be able to sneek away for part of the day.

BTW we subleased an apartment at One Superior Place (1 West Superior) through March. So I'll have a home base closer to club flys for awhile.

Obviously I'll be there.

Talked to jgrob this evening and he's planning on attending ... he mumbled something about forgetting his password, so probably won't be posting an RSVP. We used the hallway of the local park district building to make up a set of 120 foot lines for him. It's a little harder indoors when you can't drive an assortment of stakes in the floor to hold the lines. But, at least it wasn't cold and windy.

My son has been flying with me a few times and will be attending. Hopefully he'll let me fly my kites a little.

Cheers,
Tom

Are the Stephensons going? Chili wanted to know if Zach was going to be there.

A 4 hour drive will keep me home on this one! Sorry! If the weather was a bit more predictable and a whole lot warmer I'd be there for sure! Until next time... Have fun and fly one for me! :revspin: Jynx

Yes the Stephensons are going to be there, so tell Chili that Zach will be there.

See you all on Saterday,
