I've been looking forward to flying out there.

Anybody who flew there before know about the parking situation? I was Googling around to find out...it looks like there isn't any free parking in the entire area. If I'm reading the maps right, the parking lot that is at the north end is the Adler Planetarium lot, and the website indicates a cost of $10 for early bird (before 9:30) and $15 after that.

The parking was free over the winter. There wasn't even a way to collect money. I think Ken has been there since the last club fly, maybe he has something to add.

If the directions and map in the first post of this thread aren't clear, let me know. Park right at IKE marker on the map, by the old airport terminal.

Cool, I hope that's still available.

just drive down past the old terminal. Plenty of parking and it is all free. The only time there is a problem is when there is an event in the area. That was according to the workers I talked to the last time I flew there.

I am still unable to commit. At this point, I have no one to watch Elie. I'll let you know if it changes

Yap just ignore the signs about no further beyond this point. Free parking is at the terminal. The road WILL take you right to the terminal. Even when Krissy and I were out there during xmas time, there was a winter event going on, the parking was free.

Hey Isaac,

Do you want to bring your battery and inverter? I've been curious to see how my amp would perform powered by that. I can also plug in a monitor that measures the energy draw to see how much the battery is being taxed...

Oh that's a real shame and partially my fault. I should make the hours more clear for the next club fly.
When I say 9 to 5, most people don't show at 9. A few of us do, and we didn't make this particular fly.
Most people probably show up between 10:30 and 11:00, but they've missed a lot of fun by then!

Darn ... showed up with the wrong kite again! The winds were very light and the rain wasn't!

Ken, Jeff and Kathy were there with their SUL kites when I got there around noon ... since it was still raining when we first got to Chicago I took a side trip to Dave's kite shop. Isaac and Tibo showed up a little later than I did ... yep, Isaac hauled out the fourth SUL kite. My std B-series looked and felt like it was made out of lead for most of the early afternoon ... finally, between rain squall one and two the wind came up enough that it was fun. We took a vote when we saw rain squall three forming over Chicago and the vote was to run for it ... the decision was made about three to five minutes too late ... all of us got soaked ... some more than others.

Parking was a mixed bag ... some of us talked the security folks into letting us drive out to the terminal. Others were directed to the paid parking ... Jeff must just be too nice a guy, cuz he ended up paying and walking. Security just didn't want to mess with either Ken or me ... so, we parked free. I think you can expect free parking with a little talking.

The island looks like a great place to fly if the winds and the moisture cooperate.

So Mike, how did you know to stay home? Direct line to the weather service? Premonition? Or, just dumb luck?

I have two Revs, an 11 foot mesh delta and 150 feet of tails drying in my basement right now.

Can't remember the last time I was so completly soaking wet.

Thanks Ken for the ride back to our car.

It's the other way around. If I had come, it wouldn't have rained. The sun follows me wherever I go. :-D

Actually, if I had come it would have snowed or something...

OK, I've measured the distance on a map. My car was a 2,000 ft walk away. I made that walk 5 times. Twice in pouring rain. 10,000 feet is not much under 2 miles.

That was a rough one.
