New Flyer ~ Carol Stream, IL

Postby EETWiz » Sun, Jul 13 2008, 10:11 PM

My oh my has kite flying progressed over the last 25 years. Little did I know how much it has developed since I was a child. Well, I am getting back into kite and my kids seem to be following me. Currently I am only a single line delta kite man and probably where I am going to stay. Dual/Quad line kite don't seem to be where I am going.

Now I am just trying to find other local kite enthusists as well as some local kite stores.

Glad to be part of the crew.

Welcome Aboard EETWiz. Glad you found us.

If by chance you are free this saturday (19th) come on out to Northerly Island, we will be having a club fly there. That way you can put some faces with the screen names. Also if you want I can give you a chance at flying a quad line kite. How old are your children, maybe if not you then them.

I saw that event on the calendar and it made my mouth water. Unfortunatly my current job makes me a hermit. I work 4 nights a week and it starts on Thursday night. SO, I tend to be sleeping when the world is playing. :(

I hope everyone takes pictures and posts them.

:thanks:

Welcome to the club!
There's lots of cool single line kites out there, you don't have to try flying a sport kite.
But you might want to give it a little try....

Shawn,

Look at the shades that Tom is wearing in his Avatar ... they filter out half the light ... that's why he flys on half the proper amount of lines ...

Cheers,
Tom

My new eye glassed arrived today. They get dark in the sunlight.

Does that mean I have to give up Revs and learn to fly a two line kite?? 8)

Maybe Lynn can help you with two of the four lines ... you'd still be flying together ... really together.

BTW Jim, I finally achieved a breakthrough today ... something that two line flyers can't even begin to do ... I was able to hold the kite inverted for several minutes. Mind you, it wasn't really a hover, more of an inverted meander, but at least it was upside down and didn't scare the worms.

Cheers,
Tom

EETWiz,

I'm sorry, I've been talking all around you ... Welcome to the club. You've joined a great group of very friendly, helpful folks.

However, if you want to stay a one line flyer, you'll have to avoid several really infectious individuals. A little over six weeks ago, I owned a delta kite that has been kicking around the house for over twenty years. I visited the Pontiac Kite Festival, at the end of May, where backdraft introduced me to quad flying. Now I've got two REV's, one sled and a second sled in the mail. So, you're correct, kite flying has really changed during the last 25 years.

Cheers,
Tom

Someone else who works nights and lives in my neck of the woods! A BIG HELLO!

Have to warn you, I can't fly, but great at crashing. I have a couple quads you can try. Also a large power kite if your ever sucidal. I have a hard time being outside, I picked a great sport, so if you would like to borrow during my down time let me know.

if you want to hook up during the day, I start work at 3 pm.

Welcome!
I took found my way back to kites after about 17 years. Was Single line and the bigger the better, that is untill I found these guys
and when they say 'dark side' it really is. I got a REV in Dec and although I great at crashing Im getting better each time which keeps me wanting more.

I have learned never say never :)

Welcome to the Club!

I too re-discovered kiting after a lotta years. In the '70s I was big into fighter kites and dragons. In the '90s I bought a gorgeous dragon as a gift for my daughter and the bug hit bigtime.

While I fly mostly dual and quad, fighters are near and dear to my heart. They are inexpensive (even the very best cost less than the average sport kite), can be flown almost anywhere and they are a constant challenge and a and a very pure "wind and kite" experience.
