Leading Edge Spars

In the DVD that came with the B-series kite, Barressi mentions that the place which undergoes the most stress is in the middle of the leading edge. He goes on to mention a hybridization technique of mixing spars... like having 3 wrap in the middle and 2 wraps on the sides and, also, vertically. Can you mix the regular spars for this technique (i would assume you can)... or do special interchangeable spars have to be purchased?

Yoda: Yes, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side.

all the rods that come with the Baressi's can be interchanged. With the vented, you get 3 & 4 wrap, the standard, 2 & 3 wrap. Mix and match to your liking and the wind.

FYI:

2 wrap = Professional Use Only
3 wrap = Ultralight
4 wrap = Revolution Equiped

So far, I have always used the same set throughout the kite and as of yet, had no reason to intermix them.

The spars used in the Barresi series is the exact same rods used in the standard 1.5 SLE kites. You can interchange them with each other no problem. You can also purchase other strength rods for the Barresi just like the 1.5 and interchange those as well. Just make sure that if you slide a SLE into your Barresi that John doesn't find out or he may frown at you sternly. :mrviolet:

This weekend I pulled out a few of the speed series kites... and came face to face with the dreaded SLE... I so wish I had the skinny 4 wraps for them... I may have to call and ask Rev about that...lol

Thanks, guys! i had the Barresi out the last couple of days and have had a lot of fun with it! It sure is nice, even when the winds get very high! Yesterday, someone drove by in a truck yelling "awesome kite"!

Hey Tom, it's great to hear a good comment from a passer by yes. When did you start messing around with the dark arts? Hey this is some good stuff. A friend (Clint) and i used some Skyshark 3P's with polltruded rod throughout for reinforcement , as a LE for his home made Rev. It works! I think we got the spars for free, at the time we could not afford the real deal. So just like a dual line with mixed frame parts, it is ok to try combos of spars. What are the advantages or effects of mixing sizes, if any, on a quad? I use a mix of sizes on some of my dual lines. I haven't decided if it makes that big of a diff? He still messes around with quads from time to time. Me, i do the quad line foil for traction thing now and again... No LE's on them though.

i just recently got sucked into the big black hole, Jason! "You can check in any time you'd like... but you can never leave." Today, i flew my dualie quite a while; but i also pulled out the Rev and had a lot of fun with it too! It's a lot different in many respects, but there is still a lot of timing and muscle memory stuff involved with it too! Lam Hoac really inspired me regarding this, at Grand Haven. He can do both very well! Indoors, with his Rev SUL, he did some really amazing stuff. Outdoors, with his new Fearless kite, he was doing endless Multi-Lazies inches from the ground in very low winds! He was also flying quads outdoors in the demos... and was doing flic flacs with a Rev like nobody's business!
