April 14 & 15, Airwaves in Cincinnati

Postby Mike » Wed, Feb 22 2012, 08:03 PM

Airwaves Kite Festival
April 14&15
West Chester, OH
http://www.wguc.org/airwaveskitefest/voa.asp

There's been some reorganization of the fields due to works by the parks department.
But there will still be a field for sport kites, a field and hospitality tent for AKA members, a field for Chicago Fire, and a field for 180GO!.

This is a fun festival. I'll add more info as it comes in. Or anyone else can more info too, of course.

Because of the work being done on the fields, the 180GO! field may be too close to the other fields for the festival to give us our usual sound system. We may provide our own, quieter system, so we have music to fly to, even if the crowds can't hear it as well.
Either way, come on out and play with us!

More info from the organizers. If you need their email address, pop me a PM
The Airwaves Kite Fest will be held on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 from noon -5 both days at the VOA Park.
...
We count on our out-of town kite flying friends to add to the show and WOW the public with your cool kites and flying expertise. We'll have a club and stunt kite field for you to fly in. If you can arrive early and stay all day you may park inside the park on a gravel lot. You will need to get a parking pass ahead of time and we'll feed you supper for your effort. If you reply to this e-mail we'll add you to our list for supper ( # of people in your group) and send you a parking pass.
If you cannot get here by 11:00 and stay for the entire day then you will need to take the shuttle to and from the Park.

The Wyngate Hotel by Windham is our sponsor Hotel for the Festival (7500 Tyler Place Blvd in West Chester,OHio  45069 phone # 513-777-1101)rooms are $94.00 per night. Please support them if you need a place to stay for the Festival, they are putting up our guest fliers.

The VOA Park is planning to start some major rennovations, we don't know if that will impact the area that we can fly in this year, we will play it by ear.

All public parking for Airwaves will be off site this year, at the Medical Facility off Cox road, a short bus ride to the Park.

Big Mike, Mikey, Mike, Jeff and David are going. Who else?
This is a really good festival for single line, dual and quad kiters. They take good care of all the kiters, not just the teams.

Maybe me . . . TBD. If I go, I don't know that I can be there both days. The cub scouts have a pack meeting on Sunday afternoon, and I should probably be there for it since it's the service project one.

Count Shari and I in. We will be there late Friday, and are planning on leaving Sunday after the festivities. We will attend the dinner and any other get togethers. I am ready to get the fest season under way. Kite party was a good warm up, and it has me excited for this year. I am confident we will have nothing but good weather and great wind!

Currently in negotiations with the wife about this one . . . . I've at least pinged her about it, but it may take some time until I get an OK (I think she's concerned about other things we may have scheduled). For now, I can't commit (and if I can, it will probably only be for Saturday).

I'll add you to the dinner count Steve, just in case you can make it.
Jynx, think you might come down for this one? There should be several rev fliers there in addition to 180GO! and Chicago Fire.

Fyi...we will have the use of their sound system as in the past years. When going to the park, use the entrance on Cox Rd., not the Taylorsville Rd. entrance. Also, there will be no learn to fly next to us, just club/aka sport kites.
Mike, please bring my team jacket. I may stop by friday night to get it.

Having the sport kite field right next to us should make it pretty fun.
(I'll have David and Jeff's jackets.)

. . . . and I'm not going to make it there this year (sorry). I've got a bunch of work and work-related things that need to get done tonight/tomorrow (plus cub scouts on Sunday), so it looks really unlikely at this point. If it changes, of course I will edit this post before heading out. I had even convinced David to go . . . . Maybe next year. See you at another festival soon-ish.

Update - still working, so post pics please!

Just back home from airwaves. It was a fun weekend. Unfortunately we got rained out on saturday. So we filled the day with some tooling around town, not a total loss. But today turned out to be dry warm and sunny, and there was wind. ALOT of wind. There are going to be alot of sore hands and arms tomorrow. But we flew all day, had alot of spectators come and go, Zach did an admirable job jumping in to give us a team of six. We flew a routine to Pirates in fast forward, I distinctly herd a few sonic booms. Fun.Was a nice fest, and the flying area was large and open. All in all a good time!

Wish I could have been there to see it (and fly). Sorry Saturday was a washout.

I didn't get a kite into the air this weekend . . . but the cub scouts did get a huge pile of wood chips spread at the church, so that's good (the church sponsors the cub scout pack). I also got a bunch of work done . . . which is both good and not so good at the same time. Hope you also got to connect with Ob2kytn and the Columbus crew.
