I know you are up north (and therefore likely to be flying out of Ohare). I found LAX to be quite a bit less expensive than Orange County for airfare. If you fly into LAX, I'd share a rental car with you. I was planning to take a shuttle van to the beach (and hopefully catch a ride back with someone flying out of LAX Monday afternoon), but I'd split a rental car if you're flying into LAX. If you're interested, I'm flying into LAX on Friday morning (very early for me - takeoff from MDW at 6am, arrive LAX 8:30am) and flying out Monday night around 6 or 7 pm. I'm currently staying at the HoJos . . . but contemplating a move to one of the other hotels on the beach. May depend on how much my check engine light and other car maintenance issues cost to resolve . . . .

So here's a KP noob question. Dave's guidelines say 75ft maximum lines, 50-60 recommended. What are you bringing? I don't currently have a set shorter than 75 feet. I've thought about cutting up two lines from one of my crappy 120 sets to make a 40 foot set - maybe I'd make a 60 foot set out of the 3rd & 4th lines.

What will most people be flying? What do you use for team flying at KP?

I'm also planning to bring a couple sets of 120's (light & heavy wind) - is there room away from the roped off areas to fly on 120's?

Side note . . . I spent most of last year on 120s, but lately I've been enjoying flying on the mid-length lines again (I think 75s or 85s) - more responsive flying and less to wrap up when you're done.

I'll be flying on 75's on Saturday & Sunday. I'll probably be on 120's outside of those days. Most of the Rev fliers will do the same.
There is room outside of the field to fly on 120's. Few people fly outside of the field though, so you'll' be on your own.

Some years he had a 50' limit, but that was before there was a lot of team flying, or a lot of Rev's for that matter.

He's been slowly increasing the number of demos during the day (I wish he wouldn't), and if someone does a demo, they' can fly on 120's.

The number of sport kiters has increased over the years, but the space hasn't. So that's why the need for shorter lines. Also, each flier has to be good enough not to bring down any nearby fliers, thus the new, stricter, registration rules.

Oh yeah, be prepared to wind up your lines when you bring your kite down and go eat lunch. Leaving the lines across the field, even along the edges can cause problems in the crowded field. Either wind them around your handles or keep a winder in your back pocket.

Don't forget to wear your IKE shirt on Saturday morning. The group photo will be right after the morning announcements (Pilot's Meeting)

Glad to hear 75s are Ok. I will bring those for sure. Maybe I will get another set made. Pix look great and I'm getting fired up to go!

BTW, over on gwtw Dave said he has over 60 registered! Also, they redid the kp registration site again so it looks much better and the navivgation is better too (no weird scrolling).

The new site is better.

Another thing to bring: it would be nice if everyone (even 180GO! members) would bring their own radio to listen to calls. FRS radios are pretty cheap; just get one that you can plug a headphone into. And an extra set of batteries. You can find the radios at WalMart or sporting good stores.

I'm doing carryon luggage so I won't be bringing extra equipment.

Cool! Get registered David!
And Mikey, you might want to tell Dave Shenkman you're on 180GO! so he can list it on the registration page.

I did put 180GO! on the registration. Not sure why it didn't make it up on the list. I cant wait to get to a nice beach, and enjoy some kites and friends.
Mike: What is the weather usually like temperature wise. SO I know how to pack.

It varies of course, but the temps are roughly 50's in the morning, low 70's in the afternoon. Mostly sunny the whole time. I've had an hour of sprinkles a couple times, but not on the weekend. It doesn't rain on weekends in Southern California.
Basically, I usually wear a sweatshirt in the morning, but I'm in short sleeves by lunch.
The wind is light and off the city in the early morning, then mid morning it switches off the ocean to a wonderful and steady breeze.

Actually, if you look at the few photos I posted above:
It's taken at approximately 10 am on Saturday morning. The locals are wearing long sleeves or a sweatshirt, the foreigners are in short sleeves--even me.

p.s. for those of you who don't' know: I grew up in Huntington Beach, so I know it doesn't rain. :) It did hail once though. More trivia: Scott Weider also grew up there.

I booked the Sun N Sands for a really low rate. If anyone is looking to cut their expenses, I could take on a roommate.
