slow forum....

Our hosting service is changing the way we are hosted, basically spreading our site over a few servers so that it can switch over when one server slows down. Give it a day and see if we see any change.

Actually...
I've now opened a new account and I'l be moving the old account to the new one (for the oldtimers here: I'm moving it from Chris Babb's account to mine--finally).
This will take a bit of time and the site may go down for a couple hours during the final bit of transfer, but that probably wont happen for a couple days.

I'm planning on taking the site down Monday morning while I do the work. It will probably take all morning, maybe longer...

Thanks Jynx!
The Forums are up and running, so if you hear from someone who can't get to the forums, going to
www.ikeclub.org/Forums
will work. The wiki home page isn't working yet...

Until I get the Wiki problem figured out, the Ikelopedia and festivals links at the top of the page won't work.
For now, ikeclub.org will now take you directly to the forums, and skip the opening page.

Mike

The other day I posted on the WSIKF thread regarding my inability to get on the IKE Forum using our Verizon MIFI.

Whatever the problem was, it is gone now, since you went to a different server. I am using the MIFI for this post

Good going.........

Cool! Then the work was worth it. Glad to have you back, no matter where your Airstream is parked.

Hey Mike, just checking in here . . .

I tried to upload a picture tonight, and I received a message saying the "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." You might want to look into that . . .

Any status update on the IKElopedia or the Festivals page? I'm sure you have plenty of other things to do . . . .

I need to update the Wiki (IKElopedia) software to make it compatible with the new system.
Since Jeff is leaving us (boo hoo), I'm not sure I want to maintain the wiki. Instead I would have an opening page that would show the google calendar version of upcoming festivals, links to the forum, maybe a couple photos and an intro.

Unless you guys convince me otherwise: what features have you used in the IKElopedia?

Steve, please try to upload your photo again.
If it doesn't work, can you tell me the size of the file you're trying to upload? Both the number of bytes, and the dimension in pixels.
Thanks,
Mike

I think those are all good things for the IKElopedia. I don't remember what else was there in the original version . . . . so I guess the only other things I might add are links to other kite sites, and perhaps information or tips on kite flying - both for safety and also for comfort and fun. I mostly used the festivals calendar, but then I spend almost all my IKE time on the forum, not on the intro page. If you're going to redo the intro page anyway, it might be a good idea to check out some of the other club web sites and put their best ideas into the intro for IKE. I'd also suggest making the forum and registration links bigger and more obvious - while they were on the front page in a couple places, that's how we really hook people into IKE, so we need the clicks there.

Just my 2 cents . . . worth exactly what you paid for it ;)

One of the main reasons to re-do it was to make it easier to find and register on the forum.

If you've seen other home pages you like, kite club or any other club, post the links here for ideas. Or PM them to me.
Thanks!

I wouldn't say leaving...just moving to a more distant home base. :p

FWIW, the Hoosier Kitefliers Society website recently got a new look thanks to its new webmaster (yours truly). Not sure whether anything HKS did would be inspiring or useful to IKE, but I welcome you to have a look! The HKS site is built on an open-source content management system called, Joomla.
