Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
Chance of rain, but also chance of wind . . . and temps in the 60s. Anybody interested in getting together for a few hours?
Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
We are doing a day in the city for our anniversary. I have been itching to get out and flying also. Wish I could join you. Next time!

Urban street flying . . .

Possibly. If we can set a time, I can arrange my day.

Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
I'd vote afternoon, as I'm not a morning person (and I'd like to get some things done first before flying). However, that may change depending on how the detailed forecast looks as it gets closer.
Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
I've been itching to get out in the evening this week, but family responsibilities come first.
Steve, PM me. I'm somewhat flexible. I can come out by you too.

Steve,
We are in. We've been sneaking out on Sunday AM's while the family unit is asleep. Saturday would be ideal for us.

Wish I could ... rules test and annual safety meeting at the railroad museum on Saturday.
Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
My schedule is all clear for Saturday afternoon, but I have to be back for family dinner. I think I'm supposed to be cooking.
Looking at the weather, we might be grilling. Time for packed away shorts to grow lily white legs. Vented required I think.

Given that we have two (+ dog) in Wheaton, and one in Sugar Grove . . . maybe something in our direction. Maybe the sports fields in St. Charles (although soccer season is starting up)? Not sure where there might be another central location, unless we tried for something like Graf Park, or the horse track / field behind the Dupage Forest Preserve offices. I'll have to look at the wind direction - that last field can be dodgy if the wind is from the wrong direction (as it has trees on the sides).
Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
It's not far, but let's pick the place that usually has the best wind. I don't need to fight off bad wind as bad as I am already.

Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
I'm still thinking the field by the Dupage Forest Preserve offices (just north of I-88 / Naperville Road) will be OK with the wind direction predicted for tomorrow. SW winds are good on that field. The "long" dimension of the horse track ring is SW/NE and most of the trees are on the north side / NE end of the ring, so winds out of the SW are (mostly) unobstructed. I haven't heard from anyone else in the area (like zero1199 or makatakam), so I'm guessing it's just the three of us.
My second choice for location would be the fields in St Charles near the airport. Let me know if you'd prefer those fields.
For time - how about early afternoon? 1 pm or so, for a couple hours? I have a bunch of errands to run and I'd like to get them done first, and my wife wants me home by 4 pm. Although starting at 1 pm the winds are forecast to be gusting up pretty high (gusts to 30 mph). Bring vented! Given the predicted gusting, maybe a little obstruction will be a good thing.

1pm it is. The forest preserve is great for me. I assume there's a field near the offices. I'll park over by the offices and look for you.

Re: Local Club Fly Sat 4/12?
Does anyone else find the new google maps very annoying? It used to be very easy to get a short link to post for a map location. They seem to have hidden that link feature under a settings button, and/or now require you to either email a link or share it via google groups. They've taken other stuff that was easy to use and made it harder. For instance, after you search for a location, the "get directions" and "show traffic" options are now two or more clicks away, when they were right on the page in the "old" maps. Sorry, I know these are very, very minor problems but it's just stupid to take something that works well and make it worse from a usability standpoint. Google should know better. I guess they are trying to be more like Windows 8. Either that, or I've become substantially dumberer over the last few weeks.
Here's the location

Hey guys, check this out:

Most of it is pretty technical, but the gist of it is that strong and nearly severe storms might impact the Chicago area by 1800 UTC to 1900 UTC (1 p.m. to 2 p.m. CDT).

I decided I needed a signature line, so I wrote this.

Here's a pic of the hail we got up north ... note that the road in the picture is a paved black-top road...
