Hey y'all, don't let a little cold weather get you down! (Blowing snow is reducing visibility to about 100 feet outside my window as I write this)
Set aside Friday Dec 22nd for a Club Fly :clubfly: at Perry Farms park in Kankakee/Bourbonnais, IL
Perry Farms

We will be flying single-line beauties as well as sport kites.
Any questions? (or would another date be so much better for you?)
Just post here.

We're socked in, no school and it's still blowing and snowing. I love it! Even dh came home after a couple hours of work. Gotta go see where the sleds are...

Oh, the 22nd works for us. Yea!

We're socked in here also. All of s/e Wisconsin if under the snow. I had a heck of a night at work this morning and my friend's retirement party was also cancelled. I guess the lingerie dancers could't get out of their houses. So I'm hassling my wife who is on vacation by having my own party. Everyone wanted to party at they're houses. Yeah, so they didn't have to drive in this mess. Anyone want a Guinness? Come on over.

No too close to Wisconsin I'm afraid.

From the song, City of New Orleans, by Arlo Guthrie:
Ridin' on the City of New Orleans
Illinois Central, Monday mornin' rail
15 cars & 15 restless riders
Three conductors, 25 sacks of mail

All along the southbound odyssey
the train pulls out of Kankakee
Rolls along past houses, farms & fields ...

I'm not sure what you mean by the Christmas Vacation fly. It's the only club fly scheduled for around that time. Has there been another mention on the forum that I missed? This thing gets pretty busy sometimes and I miss posts.

Depending on the weather, it will be an all day thing, starting around 9am and going until it's too dark or cold.
We could also go over to a pizza place or some place with a large room, to eat and warm up.
Denny or Steve or one of the locals can help us out with suggestions here.

Personally, I'll be putting up some SLKs and flying a revolution, maybe some fighters.
We could also have a Rok battle or two if there's interest. I'll have 4 or 5 with me for those that don't have one.

Perry Farms is a public park with lots of space and is at a midpoint for travel for most of our members. It's about 1 1/2 hour drive north for me , and about a 1 1/2 hour drive south for several others. And then there's several folks who live right nearby.

Another alternative, if everyone wants to drive down to Champaign to fly, is we can fly kites at a park here and then go over to my house for milk and cookies (or whatever).

i don't have that day off :( ... but i do have 2 Personal Days to use before the end of the year; so if the weather looks cooperative, i'll definitely be there! :-D

i fly throughout the winter, but i do not like flying my better kites when there is snow on the ground; when snow exists, i fly my unhotnotsobetter kites!

Wouldn't a Saturday or Sunday Fly enable more people (possibly) to come?

The 22nd is Winter Solstice!... ought to make for really wild floaty things happening!!!

from Emily Dickinson:

Winter under cultivation
Is as arable as Spring.

I would have thought so too, but an informal off-forum poll found this date to better this time around.
Hope the weather is good and we get to see you.

They just recently said on the news that, due to better nutrition, vitamins, and health knowledge, etc... the new middle age should be moved to 60. That makes me feel a whole lot better! :-D

i'll hopefully show up to the Dec. 26th one if the weather isn't too bad. i think i'll forego the hot dog thing though... since i'm a vegetarian! i used to eat Chicago-style dogs at one time long ago, and i didn't forget... they are mighty tasty!

The day after Christmas fly on Cricket Hill at Montrose Harbor would be the Ed Liphard fly. This was a Skyliners fly when they were still active, but a few of us still make it out there.

I am working at least a half day on the 22nd, what time is the fly planned for? Also if it is wet I probably won't fly as nothing aids a holiday celebration like a few hundred square yards of wet ripstop draped everywhere
