It's raining right now. It's been raining all night, there's a 90% chance of further rain, and there's no wind to speak of.
I guess I'm not a die-hard.
I need better weather before I drive 3 hours round-trip for this. If it was just me, maybe. But I don't see Rose having a good time hanging around in the rain with a bunch of middle-aged guys.
I'll check the weather again in a little while and if it gets better, maybe I'll be there later today.

(I just stood in the rain trying to get a Nintendo for Xmas, but I missed out, they had 6, I was number 9 in line. I gotta dry out a bit)

Rain before 7, it'll stop before 11, or so the wives tale goes. We'll give it untill 11 to decide if we're working on kites today or flying them.

Kids just opened the Advent calender for today and found a kite. They're saying it's proof we should be flying. :mrviolet:

Take care of you're girls Babbman. :nurse: Yogurt, with active cultures, will help with the thrush. Hope everyone is feeling better for Christmas.

The thrush is probably caused by the anti-biotic Elie is on. Last year, we found out that she had a kidney reflux problem where the urine was backing up... She's been on anti-biotics for the last year in hope that she would outgrow the problem. We went in for a VSUG (Voiding catheter catscan) yesterday and they had screwed up and scheduled a radiological rather than a nuclear test... we have to go back next week. We are hoping that she has outgrown the problem but in all honesty, both Jenny and I are furious that she has to be on something for this long... we knew that she would end up having other problems but the Dr's are so shortsighted and always seem to take the easy way out... We supplement her with a pro biotic but the cold she caught is pretty wicked and everything is kind of out of control on her... Elie is a terrible patient and with everything that needs to go on before Christmas (we have both families coming here on xmas eve and day) that this was the last thing we needed to happen... hopefully she will feel better today...

At least I can work on something kite related and have everything I need to finish up my circoflex... just trying to find the patience to do the 20' seams I have left.... hopefully, it will clear up long enough later for me to try and put it up to see how bad I screwed it up!

Hey y'all,
I'm no longer cranky from standing in front of Toys R Us in the rain and coming up empty handed.
The sun has just come out in Champaign.
The storm is moving from south to north.
That means it will be blue in Bourbonnais soon.
Even if it's raining up north, it should be good weather at Perry Farms.
Time for everyone who's been hanging back to pile some ripstop into the car and head over to Perry Farms!
Check the Radar if you want to see for yourself.

Let's fly! :revspin: :revspin: :revspin: :revspin: :revspin:

I hope all of you IKE'rs had a nice dry fly. Sorry I oculdn't fly with you. It's been raining here for the last two days, I can't even get out here. I was going to throw up a kite and fly in observance of the fly but no go.

Sorry to hear that Banshee. Just got back from Perry Farm :mrblue: Great time was had by all. The rain let up early, and we even had a few spots of sun  Really gusty at times but other than that, we couldn't have asked for better weather three days before Christmas :clap Thanks to all who braved the gloomy and wet forcast for a fantastic day :SLKani: :revspin: :bash: I will post pics shortly, :thanks:

'twas a great day today.
Tom, Steve, Chris, Ken, Rose, Draftnik, JJ, Kiteslayer and myself were out there having fun.

Chris got there first and had field well marked with his IKE banner, EZ-UP, spikey ball, big 'ol sled and tails and snowman line laundry.
It looked like a kite festival!

Draftnik had a large Rok up in the strong winds, which flew absolutely steady and pulled like a truck!
She and JJ also did a couple Teddy Bear drops.
Tom flew some very nice dual line all day. I don't know how he does that great slack line stuff in high winds.
And JJ joined Tom for a while too.
The rest of us put up SLKs and flew quads.
Kiteslayer flew with the other quad guys for the first time. He did well and was fun to fly with.
JJ also flew quads, so I guess he was the most all around flier today.

After it got dark, Draftnick, JJ, Kiteslayer and his charming young sisters (Karen and Anna) joined Tom, Rose, Ken and I at a fine Subway for dinner.

Rose took some photos too, I'll try to get them up soon.

Good to hear, way to go you spartanesque flyers. I'm glad to hear the weather was kind to you guys also. Drafty, was the wind as bad as Sheboygan was? Well I look forward to flying with you folks in the near future or at least seeing you guy's at MAKR. I'm going to try and put together a kite for the Cricket Hill fly on the 26th. I hope I have the time, I still have to go shopping.............

Hey, I enjoyed the pics, looked like a good day. Way to go Kiteslayer, you sure showed that kite, didn't you. I really loved that pig. Is that an original or manufactured?

Man, don't you love digital photography?

Peace out

Sheboygan was worse. I got the courage up to put the SPLAT kite in the air today, an 8' rok. it was a drafty move, I know. It made Mike hover, :-) and it did pull like a truck! While he was there chatting about the kite with me, I felt I could handle it just fine. He stepped away and I realized I was stuck there until someone came to help me get it down, and maybe it wasn't such a good idea! About the time I was ready to look around for help, Kite Slayer chirped up at my elbow, asking if he could pull it down. Well, yea! As a matter of fact you can!

SPLAT btw, stands for Super Parafauna Land Assist Team, a nod to the runners, and climbers (Mike :!: ) who galantly return my jumpers to me. SPLAT also motivates my search for super sized paintballs, because eggs are just too little.

We had a great time! It's a treasure, any moment kiters get to fly until they're flown out and frozen and then, to warm up chatting and laughing together. Memories of today will be fond keepsakes for me.

TTFN,
Drafnik (sigh) on the wrong account...

Well, while I missed the fly, and was at the beck and call of 'the sick one', I did manage to finish my circoflex.... I'm taking it out for a fly tomorrow and will post pics then...

And Chris... where did you come from? I didn't think you were going to be there...

As always the weathermen were right on... NOT!!!!!! For two days b/4 Xmas, who would have ever thought the ground would be sloppy from rain and not snow?

Peeks of sun through the clouds, good strong winds at times, good friends to spend the day with. What more could anyone ask for? :mrviolet: :mrorange: :mrblue:

Till the next fly. EVERYBODY have a Great Christmas and New Year!!!!!!! :kid: :-D

P.S. GREAT pictures guys/girls. Chris I really love the "Tales from the DARKSIDE" ones. :rotfl

i had a great time today! It's great to fly with dedicated flyers who don't care what other people think!

It was super flying with you all... and the stop-over at the Subway for a meal was very nice too, with some interesting and fun conversation! The way that i ate at Subway... there was more than one flying pig at our get-together!

The winds were very choppy and ballistic... but that just gets us better tuned to when the winds are nice and smooth; then we can really show our colors!

The pics were very nice!... cool! By the looks of that one pic, Kite Slayer has a really great technique that the White Sox can use for sliding into first!

My only regret is that i missed out on the Tree Climbing Contest.

from Emily Dickinson:

As the Starved Maelstrom laps the Navies
As the Vulture teased
Forces the Broods in lonely Valleys
As the Tiger eased

By but a Crumb of Blood, fasts Scarlet
Till he meet a Man
Dainty adorned with Veins and Tissues
And partakes -- his Tongue

Cooled by the Morsel for a moment
Grows a fiercer thing
Till he esteem his Dates and Cocoa
A Nutrition mean

I, of a finer Famine
Deem my Supper dry
For but a Berry of Domingo
And a Torrid Eye.
