Anyone want to fly on Saturday 10/22?

Or maybe the 23rd?

Since I missed the club retreat, I really want to get out there for some more group flying time. Anybody interested in flying this coming weekend? I can probably drive on Saturday to meet up. Sunday is a bit more challenging for travel as I have to be back home by 3pm or so. Suggestions for time & place welcome.

I've been driving a lot lately...
I can go as far as Champaign on Saturday if anyone wants to drive down there (up there for me).

I'll have a chat with my wife as it would be an all day trip, and I've been out of town for a week. I'm guessing David won't go with me that far, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested. Plus, we owe you a trip to your neighborhood given the number of trips you've made up north. Ever flown at Rantoul? 15 minutes further/closer. I'm not sure what they've done with the old air base (now air museum), but there's a lot of green on the satellite pictures.

I haven't been to the air base in a few years, and that was to fly kites during an air show.
I think the airport is still in use for private planes and they may not be keen on us flying kites there.

Yeah, no problem. I'll talk to my wife when I get home & see what she says. Do you think Mikey/Shari/Mike and any of the other "southern contingent" might drive down as well? I think they read the forum . . . . . .

I might also be interested. I have some car maintenance to catch up on.but that doesn't mean I can't make time to fly.

Got approval from the wife . . . now I'll watch the weather. Right now, it looks like little chance of rain. I'll keep an eye on the wind forecast.

Ideally, we need a fourth for team flying.
Mikey are you in for sure?
Anyone else?

Steve, the final call for the fly is up to you since you're driving so far. What time do you want to meet?

Final call will be based on weather forecast for Sat. I will look at it on Friday.

I am guessing at a bit over 2 hours to get there at reasonable speed. It looks like about 150 miles for me. Departure time in the am will depend on the quantity and quality of beverages Friday evening (my wife has invited friends over). I'm thinking 10-11 am in champaign. However, I may be wrong about the driving speed and the departure time . . . .

I will probably need to be heading back north by about 4 pm.

Speaking of Champaign, where would I be going?

I apologize, but I can't make it. I had a family thing come up. Wish I could, it looks like it is going to be relatively nice. Next time.........

And then there were two...
I understand if you don't want to make the drive, Steve.

If you do, we usually meet at Zahnd park. It's close to the freeway and on the maps links.

My wife just reminded me that we have a dentist appointment Saturday morning which means I would not leave here until probably 10 at the earliest. But I'd have shiny teeth.

Let's see if anyone else pipes up. If I don't drive down there, I'm pretty sure I'll fly somewhere else closer to home on Saturday. If it doesn't happen this weekend, I still think we owe you a road trip down in your direction.

Sorry Grigory,
Some family stuff came up and it would be better if I canceled this weekend.

Crud . . . looks like we can't get a quorum for Champaign. I will probably still fly tomorrow, but it will be in the Chicago area since it would be a shorter day if I drive to Champaign. (Also sorry Grigory). Not sure yet of location - maybe Greene Valley or maybe I'll try a new field.

Flew with David today at the top of Greene Valley. Wind was a bit variable . . . vented and full sail were the order of the day, with wind varying from "pull-david-over and knock him down" (i.e. 15 mph gust on a full sail) to light (3-5 mph) within a few minutes. Made it hard to keep the vented with 4-wraps in the air. Still, we had a good time at the top of the hill and even got to fly some team a bit with David calling the moves.

There's a small chance I'll go out again tomorrow. Don't know where yet, but it will be local as I have the cub scouts at 4 pm.

So where's Mark lately? I hope a job didn't get in the way of his kiting.

Yeah, I haven't seen or heard from him either. I saw a post or two over on the rev forums, but nothing on IKE. I hope he found a job, even if it interferes with some (not all) of his kite flying.

How many do you have now? I'm thinking we're going to see a new team at some of next year's festivals!
