So I got home from work. Sat in the air for an hour then decided I would go out and fly. It has been a few days, which is way too long. Got in the car, drove to the park. Got out of the car, opened the trunk and stood there for a couple seconds. Then I shut the trunk, got in the car and went back home. I decided I will wait for the sun to go down, and find a parking lot to do some testing with the sparkaps. This weather is brutal. I have no idea why my family decided to settle in such a place. I need to move to a beach in Jamaica. Nice weather and Reggae music all day. I can become a crazy taxi driver. 8-)

Got to fly today this evening with Mark & Jeff at Busse. Plenty of wind - had the vented out on 120s for the whole time until we packed it in for the evening.

I'm with Mikey on the no flying this week. Honest though, it's not just the heat ... the humidity is the real killer. So, I've been content to fly in my mind this week ... no mistakes, all moves are perfect, and the onlookers love the routines ... couldn't be better.

Actually, I've been down in the basement sewing the next creation. Was going to use some different colors this time, but the warm fade colors wouldn't get out of the way. So, I'm continuing on with the standard fleet colors on this one. If you've seen Tony Killip's cross-color kites, you'll immediately recognize his influence on this one!

Cheers,
Tom

Hit the ground with my new creation a bit hard (should have known better than to fly a 3.7-oz, 8-footer in those winds, but had to checkk it out) and ripped the bottom right tip right off the kite. That was before Jeff and Steve (notice the alphabetical listing in deference to showing no prejudice) arrived. Geeeeeeee, another repair. How unusual!!

Tried to play follow-the-leader with them, but kept falling out of the sky. My full-vent Phantom came with 4-wrap tubes. They were flying 3-wraps in the 6 to 12, gusting to 20 winds, and I could tell the difference by my inability to exercise full control.

No flying today or tomorrow. Job interview, etc., etc., etc. Will definitely fly this Saturday and Sunday. When and where, people??????

Flew yesterday in the blistering heat. 1-8 mph winds, gusts every 15 minutes to 12+. I was showing a friend from Texas how stunt kites work. He got a minute or two of flight time in, but rarely kept it off the ground long. He did enjoy watching me zip around the sky and playing chicken with dive stops, but didn't seem to catch the fever. A little more breeze would have been helpful.

Flew yesterday evening at Busse Woods. Winds were steady at 0 - 1/2 with an occasional gust to 2 mph. Tried to fly the blk/red 1.5 sle on 85'x50# and got it up in the air briefly two or three times in the gusts. Pulled out my low-wind home-made revs and flew them on 50'x50# and the 85'x50# lines and had some fun for about an hour until the wind dwindled to 0 and stayed there.

I'll post pictures of these two as soon as I figure out how to do that.

Isn't anyone going to fly today or tomorrow? :( :( :(

Glad someone got out to fly later in the week. I did not . . . but I hope to tomorrow. I'll start up next week's thread now. Hope to see a bunch more posts in that thread soon. BTW, I hope to fly tomorrow . . . but it won't be in Chicagoland.

Mark - you can put pictures in the thread by clicking the "upload attachment" tab at the bottom of your posting window. If the forum says the file is too large, you can make it smaller by opening it in any photo editing software, then resize it down to maybe 30% of the original size, and then save a copy as a jpeg or similar file. That should get it into the size limits of the forum software. Maybe next time we get together to fly, I can show you how to do it using my laptop.

Thanks, Steve. Thanks, Mike.

I'll try to get the camera software into my laptop today and give it try, or figure out a way to link my laptop to my android phone.

 :thanks:

Ok, I might have the hang of it now, maybe. And who knows, it might even fly.

I did fly last Wednesday, btw - a 10m Slingshot (model escapes me at the mo). Wind was perfect, water a little on the warm side, and with the exception of a couple of wake-boarders playing out in the middle of Lake Waubesa, we were the only people out there for the entire session.

I soooo need to work on my endurance, though. <GRIN> I was completely exhausted by the time we were done, and then I had to drive back through Madison AND Milwaukee rush-hour traffic. :-P

Still, though, kite-boarding is everything I knew it would be. And I can't wait to get back out!!

Hope you guys are all having a wind-erful time!!

-Wendy

Flew a little yesterday. We have a relative an hour away that lives next door to their local county fairgrounds. That fair is in full swing this week so we were there for opening day. Winds were dead calm all afternoon but then a front came through and gave us about 30 minutes of 10mph wind. Luckily I'd planned ahead so I rushed to the vehicle and then out into a slowly filling fairground parking lot. A few family members and a few strangers got to see a stunt kite in action. Even got my wife to spend a couple minutes on the handles as the winds faded off into the ether.

Mike,
It's made of kitebuilding materials -- seriously though, it's ripstop poly on a rev race frame, with stick-pen end caps. That's the all-white ultralight I built before. It got un-white during the weekend rains. Decided that I have too many all-white kites I made. It's hard to figure which one I'm looking at when they're rolled up. Flew it today at Busse Woods in some 1/2 to 3 mph. Wind kicked up to 6-7 in the evening and I broke it again. I'm getting veeerrrryyyy good at repairs.

Wendy,
I never heard of or saw a slingshot. Post pictures of you and kite. I'll bet getting wet and being in the water sure beats flying dry in the heat!

What????? :-? :-? :-? :-?

Is the reference is to my new build? If so, it's "DESIGN MASTER" COLORTOOL FLORAL SPRAY (silk flower spray paint purchased at Michael's crafts store. I asked the manager and he gave me 50% off on damaged merchandise; broken caps, dented cans, ones people tried out on other cans to see the color, and cans that have been sprayed on, regular price about 8 or 9 dollars per can, I think). What you see in the picture is five colors: navy blue, purple, violet, burgundy and carnation red, feathered into each other. The white lattice is the kite material masked off with 3M blue painters' tape.

I didn't see you mention paint specifically, but I think what Mike wants to know is what (presumably lightweight) procedure you used to make it un-white. :)

Yup, you're both correct. Very nice paint job.
