Hey Mikey and Shari,
how deep is the snow in Limestone park?
It's supposed to be warmer this weekend, but that may mean that the park is swampy.

Anyway y'all, if the park is OK to use, chime in if you're interested.

And here I was just today trying to think of a catchy name for suggesting a Saturday club fly.

Saturday Superfly?
Superbowl Weekend Saturfly?
February Freezing Fly?

The only reason I didn't post is that I might go skiing with the kids this weekend instead to give my wife a break . . . but I doubt that will happen.

As an alternative to Kankakee, I was thinking about suggesting a couple of the Forest Preserve lakes up here in the 'burbs. I don't think it's going to be that warm that the ice will melt, and the last time I was on the ice at Blackwell a couple weeks ago, it was a foot thick. Would you be interested in coming this far north? I know Kankakee is more central for you.

Kankakee is already 2 1/2 hours from me, so I'm not real keen on going even further north.
Sunday is fine with me, I just thought some folks might be interested in some sporting event that's going on that day. Super something or other.

No problem for Kankakee . . . just thought I'd ask in case further north was not a problem . . .

For me, Sunday probably does not work for a variety of reasons. On Saturday, I'll have to leave Kankakee by about 3 pm (or earlier if my hands freeze :mrblue: )

According to the forecast right now, Saturday looks colder, but with a couple MPH more wind (chill) and less chance of precipitation.

What time would you plan to be there?

I really have to eat humble pie on this one. I bugged Mike to have a club fly and now I'm under the weather and will have to pass on this one.

Sorry,
Tom

Ok, let's forget this weekend.
I'll start a new thread for the following weekend.

So the official club fly is off for this weekend . . . however I may still go for a few hours in the Chicago western suburbs if anyone is interested in connecting.

Just as well it was canceled. It's snowing down here--big, heavy, wet flakes.

Don't you just love the mid-west? You're 106 miles from me as the crow flies, and yet, it's sunny and 22 degrees here with no snow ... of course there's no wind either!

Countdown to Kite Party is at 35 days for the official start ... 32 to the unofficial start!

Cheers,
Tom

It was nice (but cold) up here. We got out on the lake and were enjoying flying (me on the new 120' set I just finished making - even a Rev I kite is tiny at the end of those lines).

Then a bummer - the Dupage Forest Preserve cop (who was checking fishing permits) comes out on the ice and says "no kite flying in any forest preserve, you have to stop now, it's against the regulations because they don't like kites in the trees." Seriously. This is while we are in the middle of the lake with nobody and no trees anywhere near us. So we only had maybe 20 minutes of flying. I went back to him later in the parking lot and said show me the regulation, and he couldn't do it. By then the day was over as I wasn't going to trudge back out there with my son and set up all over again. He acknowledged that he was wrong about the regs but said he was sure he'd seen it somewhere in his book. There's a section in the book on aviation that says you will not ascend or descend by airplane, glider, parachute, balloon or kite without the written permission of the FP. I highly doubt the revs would get even my son airborne on the windiest day. I think from now on, I'm going to have to carry a copy of the ordinances in my kite bag.

Thanks, on behalf of folks who want to fly a kite in Dupage, that you had the cop double check his regulations.
Sorry you didn't get much flying time in though.

Sorry, Been busy and missed this post. It is supose to be fairly nice this weekend. I would like to fly if anyone else is interested. Still might be to cold for an all day fly, but it is going to be around 40. Might be a bit soggy, but Limestone park is usable. It is open so the snow mostly blew over. Sat or Sun, Anytime. For a couple hours if anyone is interested.

Yep, that's the one I used to correct the forest preserve ranger. Rev Kites != Aviation
