Decatur, IL 4/23/2011

Postby Mike » Thu, Apr 21 2011, 10:32 PM

The Decatur festival is one day this year since Easter is this Sunday.
180GO! will be flying there with...... Lolly promised that we'd have them in time....our new kites!

Come on down (I think I'm the only one traveling up/north) and fly. Unless there's lightning or really heavy rain, we'll be flying and having fun.

If you haven't picked up your IKE club t-shirts/sweatshirts, I'll have them all there.

It looks like tomorrow is the only day of the coming week *without* rain:
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. West southwest wind between 9 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 17 mph.

Sorry Mike, but Decatur is a bit too far for us with all the things I have to get done around the house plus kid's soccer, etc. I hope to get in an hour or two flying up near St. Charles on Saturday about 4 pm, if anyone else is interested. It's on the field here just south of Army Trail and east of Dunham road.

BTW, sport kiters should bring a shorter lineset of 75 or 80' to this festival.
180GO! will probably be flying on 75's

It will be nice to meet you in person 'mshank'. I'll make sure you get some beginner lessons if you still want them. This is a small and very casual fest, so lessons shouldn't be a problem.

Todays weather canned the first day of the Sauk Fest but tomorrow looks to be much better as well. Temps 62 and winds of 15 to 25.

Mikey and I are in Decatur. Wind is great, good turn out. If you can make it come on down. :)

We missed you Jeff. We had a great time. Maybe we will get to see you in Valparaiso, IN and if we are all lucky there will be some sunshine.

Decatur was a nice time.
The fields were a bit muddy...

But good wind for the Midwest and it was dry. The new kites look great; there's some shots of the venteds in this thread: viewtopic.php?t=1814&p=17464#p17464

Here's a photo of Paul getting his new Duck into the air:

Tom spent some time helping our new member, Ms. Shank, getting her Rev into the air. We all took turns flying team on the new kites and finished off the day with dinner at Cracker Barrel. Mmmm, good lima beans :)

Paul had his hands full with P. King the duck ... seems he decided to migrate north with his feathered friends. He made it quite far until he got mixed up at a street sign ... couldn't decide which way to go and tried to split the difference. Good looking duck!

Cheers,
Tom

My calves are a little sore from lugging around an extra 10 lbs of mud on each of my feet. Otherwise it was a great day, learned alot, practiced alot, cussed a little.
And the new kites look fantastic in action. I did make it a point to avoid the lima beans at dinner. A fun day.

I'm so glad that I came to Decatur. The new kites made team flying a whole new experience.
I was laughing at myself several times while flying when I would sneak a peek at the kites as a group to see how the red and black pairs of kites would match up and found myself following the wrong red kite. It was too cool.
Already looking forward to next time.

..... Happy Birthday O' Captain my Captain, Mike!
