Antioch Family Kite Fly: October 2, 2010

Postby Jeff » Thu, Sep 30 2010, 12:29 AM

Here's an opportunity for some of the more northern folks to get together this weekend.

I'm pretty close to Antioch, so I will try to get there if I can. I have a lot of stuff going on with the family right now, so there's no guarantee, probably won't even know until Saturday if I can go.

Here's the location: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8& ... 1&t=h&z=15

Hours: 10-5, or pretty much any time you want to be there.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

IKE is on Image too!

Given my crazy work schedule, this is iffy, but I'm going to try to make it.

Why do I work again??

It's 4 1/2 hours away from Charleston, so I wont be at this one. Though I'd really like to try Jynx's 250' lines, they sound like fun.
Hope y'all have good winds.

So, how was it?
Which kiters were there? Many of the general public? Demos?

...As you know the weather was on the cool side (low 50's) and overcast... and even a sprinkle or two! So the general public was a whole lot smarter than us and probably found warmer things to do... but a few did come and fly there SLKs. As far as how many of "us" were there... Bill and I were there all day and I was the "Best" (and only) Rev pilot! ...until Jeff showed up with his two munchkins and flew my tomato-staked SLE... (winds gusting over 30mph). Ofcourse, Dave (flying his dulies) and his dad were there and had stock on hand for the GP, as well as doughnuts and much appreciated...Hot coffee! ...and the park commission brought pizzas for us for lunch! We had great music, some biggie kites (seahorses and sleds) and two more Rev'ers showed up later in the afternoon.

All in all, we had probably 10 or so kiters, and about the same number in GP. Maybe not the biggest fest I've attended BUT I had fun and I believe the rest of the group did too. We had the opportunity to talk and get to know one another a bit better than at one of the bigger fests, which was really nice.

The park is working on better promotion/s for next year which will included free kites for the kids and other activities. Hopefully it will grow!

I posted a few (7) photos on FB.

You can't control the weather. I'm glad they're going to try again next year. Also glad y'all had a good time.
