It is on our calender (in pencil) but nothing else with it yet... my mom lives in Decatur so I get a great B&B rate

Re: Decatur April 24th And 25th 2010
Sure wouldn't miss Paul's Party! I'll be there both days. I've got a kite now for the winds of April in Decatur, so let the fun begin!
Cheers,
Tom

I can't be there Saturday, I might make Sunday.
Sunday's my birthday, so I expect a full chorus of singing out on the kite field.
Even if I'm not there, I want to hear it from Grinnell :)

It's too early to say, weather forecasts are very often wrong this far out.
Heck, they've often been wrong the morning of a festival.

Re: Decatur April 24th And 25th 2010
We'll have fun anyway!
from B. J. Thomas:
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'
So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'
But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me
[trumpet]
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'

Looks like Gene Kelley music will be needed this week end ... Singing in the Rain.
By going back to the 2008 kite festival write up, I found this map for the location of the festival. Use this address on your GPS to get close ... 4275 East Mound Road, Decatur, Il 62526
Cheers,
Tom

Re: Decatur April 24th And 25th 2010
The rain gods were kind to us on Saturday, but not Sunday.
Saturday saw Big Mike, Nick, Chris and Jeepster team flying all day. John spent his time flying and chasing off the kids with free kites trying to get in on the team flying ... we finally roped off an area and that cleared up the problems. Zack spent the day watching the weather on his cell phone. His worries finally bore fruit at about 3:00pm ... it poured like crazy. Luckily we had the kite equipment picked up and were back at the hotel when it hit. Tom P. flew one of his "bad weather" dual lines kites off and on during the day ... even did some instructing. Paul launched his new (so new he hadn't even paid for it yet) SLK late in the day. He also took care of delivering some Krekle burgers for lunch ... Thanks Paul.
We packed to go home on Sunday morning, but showed up at the field just the same. With no wind and a constant drizzle, the organizers canceled the event for Sunday.
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for the update Tom.
Re: Decatur April 24th And 25th 2010
One good day of flying.
The festival had an interesting display of Hi-Flier memorabilia. The company was founded in 1920 in Decatur. They had photos, plates used in printing kites, as well as a few kites.
180GO! flew well with Big Mike doing the calls. Nick and Chris did kite play with the small kids and Jeepster taught two big kids how to fly a Rev. Paul had the Hawaiian giving him a workout and almost launched his new line laundry late in the day.
Thanks to Paul and his cousin for lunch.
I took some pictures and will send to AKA as well.

Did Paul end up buying the smaller or the larger version of the Willi Koch 'Mega Mesh Bol' ?? I have the BIG one and so far have had problems with trying to keep the darned thing inflated. Looks GREAT when it's up...but it tends to luft way too often for this guy (don't have the patience to sit there all day & babysit the thing). Have given some thought to putting a looonger bridle on the thing to see if that'll help at all.
get 'high' on kites,
