I'll be there late Saturday afternoon ... probably too late to fly. Will be flying on Sunday. The wind forecast is currently showing 7~8 mph on Sunday.

Cheers,
Tom

James,

Great interview. I thought you might like a copy so I downloaded into a Real Player file. It's large (180meg) and I haven't found a conversion process yet. I can bring it on a flash drive to the festival. If you already have a copy, great.

Thanks for all the comments!! well only hours to go and lots to do.

Question ** anyone able to get the candy drop rig from ken? also bring your ipod, if there is an aspiring DJ in the group I had some last minute changes.

Feel free to contact me if you need anything. I have information at the hotel for you and have signs around town. It is going to be interesting just to see how many come out. expecting acouple thousand based on what others have told me.

If nobody can, perhaps a simple bag with a release to be pulled with a line could be rigged up. That's what they used at the DeKalb festival.

Great! Promo for the festival. You did a good job.

2,000 people...hummm...hope you have plenty of kids kites! Do you know the story of Airwaves first year? You don't want to hear it now, you could be living it soon.

The best of everything to this festival. Wish I could make it!

Word to the wise on the candy drops. Get volunteers to brave the field and toss/hand out additional candy. Killips have a nice rig, if you're looking for one yet.

TTFN,
Christy

Most sincere Thanks for coming out and helping me make the first year so good everyone is wanting more.

I missed the Saturday, day-time activities, but can attest to the fact that the rest of the weekend was great. Once again, we moved all of the tables aside and had an impromptu indoor kite fly at the hotel after dinner. I'm going to have to get an indoor Rev ... maybe those should be the next set of team kites!! Wonder if an indoor Half-Pint would fly well?

Sunday morning started out with good winds and cool temps ... well, until it started to rain, that was actually the story for the entire day. Light rain forced the big kites down in the early afternoon and the rest of us put away all unnecessary equipment. The team kites and a few other kites were left out to fly. 180GO! flew several routines in between the light sprinkles ... yep, the kids and their parents were having such a great time that many of them flew their kites right through the sprinkles. The candy drop with the "redneck" drop box was a success.

I talked to more observers about kite flying at this festival than I have at any other festival in the last year. The Quad Cities folks were really curious about our kites and kite flying in general. The red shirts and the website advertisement was the lead in for many of the folks who approached me.

James, you did a great job!!! This festival will be on my calendar for next year. Thanks!!!

Cheers,
Tom

Pictures from Sunday. Saturday to follow.

FYI: FTAP= Fire Truck Aerial Photography. They were giving "rides" on the 75 ft bucket. Too bad I didn't bring a kite.
