Hecks yeah I'll be there!
I'm trapped at Grinnell College for all the festivals until then, but this one comes to me! And if any kite flyers want to stick around for the following week and take my final exams for me...

I wish...but spending Mothers Day away at a fest in Iowa is just not going to happen.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

Mike wrote:... to host over 30 kite flyers ...

Going under the banner that no question is dumb ... Does that mean that only 30 kite flyers can attend or that they're supporting 30 kite flyers?

Cheers,
Tom

It means they are providing rooms to 30 invited fliers. Mostly SLK fliers, and some awesome sport kite team fliers.
There's plenty of room to fly on the site and all kiters are welcome to come.

Sadly, I probably will not be able to fly with my daughter as my son is graduating on the Saturday in Indiana.
Ken will lead 180GO! and Chris Rizzuto will be flying 2 line demos outdoors as well as doing indoor demos.

Which reminds me, there is space and time for anyone to fly indoors too. If you haven't tried it, you should--it's fun and not as hard as you might think.

A lot of Kansas City kiters come up to this event, which may be new faces for some of you.

I'm really sorry to be missing this one. Dick and Sis are wonderful, charming, thoughtful hosts.
Everyone else go and cheer on 180GO! and meet a bunch of kiters you might not otherwise meet.

This is a great time, with great folks! Maybe this year we will have some "normal" winds  They have a great indoor facility, so bring the indoor toys if you have them.
It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

I'm looking forward to see all of you mugs. Kathy will be with me this year, but whats cool. Nothing is going to change. As I asked in the Grinnell roll call thread that I did without really searching for this one. Who is going to buy me a beer?

See you guys soon.

I will also be there once I slide across some stage thing. Graduation is that weekend and my family has put the foot down, so once all the pomp and circumstance is done, well the ceremony on Sat I will be zipping over.
Im hoping to have the PitBull tuned and ready to fly with others.

Grinnell #3 among "coolest small towns in America"
If you watch the video, they even show a kite in the section on Grinnell!

Hope to see you guys around town tonight! Here's the perks, according to Sis and Dick's email:

------
On Friday night, our local chamber is sponsoring a downtown "Kick Off for Kites." They are hoping to bring Grinnellians, College Students & Visitors downtown to experience some fun.
What that means for all visiting Kite Flyers is:
1) You are invited to share a FREE pizza buffet & soft drink meal at Godfathers beginning at 7:00 p.m. (located on the SE corner of Main & 4th Ave. ... 800 - 4th Ave.)
2) You are invited to visit the Grinnell Coffee Company before 8:00 p.m. to claim a FREE ice cream sundae. (located at 915 Main St. - just north of Godfathers on the W side of Main)
3) You are invited to enjoy the music of the "Too Many Strings" Band who will be performing in front of the Bourbon Street Restaurant & Bar (located just north of Godfathers on the E side of Main) until 8:00 p.m.
4) You are invited to step into the many downtown businesses who will stay open until 8:00 p.m. to welcome you to town. Please take the time to say hello, "thank you," & let them know you are a visiting kite flyer.
4) You are invited to stop in to other downtown bars and "watering holes" who will have their lights on to welcome you both before and after the dinner at Godfathers.
IN ADDITION TO THE LIGHTS BEING ON, YOU WILL RECOGNIZE PARTICIPATING BUSINESSES BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE A KITE IN A FRONT WINDOW!

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY for the free meal & free ice cream, you will need to wear your name tag. Those name tags will be found in your WELCOME PACKET - we will have that with us when we meet at Godfathers.
