FYI: on the Florida trip, iQuad was just checking their Rev rollup bags as is. No external cases.

Sorry, but not in this lifetime am I going to trust $500 worth of kites in a soft rollup bag to the airlines. I've seen what they have done to things packed better than that.

Whenever Josh, Zach and Dan fly, they put their kites into a hard golf case. It has served them very well over the last number of years. Be sure not to lock it, as the lock will get broken upon inspection. Another idea is a large (in diameter) piece of PVC piping. We put the kites into the PVC pipe and then put the pipe into a kite bag. That has also worked very well for us.

I have my tickets and I'll be flying in and out of Orange County airport.
I fly in on Sat, 16th and home on Mon, 25th. I'll be spending time with family at the beginning, but then I'll be flying on a beach from Tuesday thru Sunday!
Before Kite Party I may fly anywhere from H.B. north to Sunset Beach. Mostly determined by parking--it's easier to find free parking at Sunset Beach.

Here's the free parking at Sunset Beach. See the empty spaces?

You can find free parking at H.B. if you're lucky and you get there early. Here's my favorite place. I like to park on 6th st, where the red car is parked. If you click on the "street view" map and drag it around 180°, you'll see the main HB Pier parking on lot on the other side.

Ain't Google Maps fun?

Hmmm, now you guys are gonna steal my parking place!

I've got my plane tickets now too. Will be arriving Thurs. morning Feb 21st (first flight out of STL). Should be on the beach by around noon! Leaving Monday the 25th.

I usually use a hard snowboard case for checking the kites, and it has worked very well. It's got a few dents and gouges in it too from the airlines being less-than-careful with it, but so far nothing has gotten damaged inside it!

See you all there. :mrviolet:

Wow, Mike. We're shooting for the same dates and airport. Probably going the 16th, but maybe the 17th.

Except you probably wont be flying out of Champaign and going thru Dallas. I'll meet you on a beach on Tuesday though! As well as any Stephensons who want to meet up.

That's true. We'll fly from ORD.

Most likely I won't be on the beach early in the trip, though. Since this is 1/2 family vacation and 1/2 Kite Party, we'll be spending the first part doing other things. Probably go down by San Diego for a couple days. But everything is subject to change at the moment.

And meet with Jim and Lynn Foster too of course!
I think Mike S. and Jim may really get along with their interest in automobiles / motorcycles and things mechanical.

Hector will probably only be able meet up with us on the weekend.

If possible, all IKE members should meet at H.B. on Thursday afternoon.

If I'm counting right, that's 12 midwest IKE members, and when we add the [strike]3[/strike] 4 California members, plus our Nevada member:
that will be 17 folks wearing IKE shirts!
Save a clean IKE shirt to wear on Saturday, it will be awesome.

I've got 2 T-shirts, and a sweatshirt...I'm all set.

We could have a mega-fly all on our own!

That's true! We could almost beat last years record just with IKE members.

Right now, the temperature outside is -1°F, so in California it will be about 60° warmer than that.
To help you with your daydreams, here's a Google Map of locations in the area.

Just getting your tickets NOW?!! :rotfl :rotfl

I have had my flight booked since NOV., think I am just a little excited?!

Both Babbman and I will be on the same flight, leaving on the 21th and coming back to town on the 25th.
We will be arriving in LA around noon. We will be in the same hotel that the Mike S. & family are at. Right across from the beach. So after we check in or before for that matter, we can be out on the beach with everybody.

So how about some more teaser pictures. I NEED another FIX!!! :doc:

I used frequent flier miles--I've had the tickets on hold for a while, I just finalized the transaction.

American Airlines Leave O'hare at 2:05 & arrive LA at 4:35, same flight? Coming back on 1/25 Leave LA at 5:30 pm.
I'm so excited, warm weather, kiting, wish I could stay longer.

I'm going to go to the airport a couple days before with the Revs and make sure I can carry them on. I hope they don't lose your guitar case Jeff.

I better start untangling my lines!

Problem solved!

I'm going to UPS my kites to CA, so I know they will be safe. I like the idea of the PCV or PVC piping, going to use that. My g/f is close to the beach if anyone else wants to ship theirs out let me know. Also hotels may accept a package for you.
