2008: Mots Kite Festival, Milwaukee - September 13-14,

Postby backdraft » Thu, Sep 04 2008, 07:52 PM

Hey All,

If any one is interested in going to Mots, Anne called the Comfort Inn in downtown Milwaukee and she talk the manager into giving rooms at 89$ a night to people attending the festival. The hotel is only a block from the fest. Ken & Chrissy, Paul, and Anne & I will be staying here on the 12th & 13th. If any one is interested talk to Lisa the hotel manager.

Mike S.

p.s. this is a great festival and Scott treats IKE members and there families great.

As it turns out, I'll be in Arizona all week next week, returning to the Milwaukee airport at about Midnight on Friday. I might just grab a room for when I get back...

From Scott Fisher:

MOTS 2008...30 GREAT YEARS! WOW...30 years. THE WORLD will be WATCHING US FLY! "The 30th Annual Time Warner Cable Frank Mots International Kite Festival will be held on Saturday, September 13th,& Sunday September 14th, 2008, in Veterans Park on Milwaukee's Lakefront from 10:00 am until 5:00Pm Saturday and 10:00 am until 5:00pm on Sunday. County Executive Scott Walker will kick off the festival at 12 noon with the Caribou Coffee grand launch of hopefully 500 kites. That's right...two great days of flying. The event is sponsored by the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois, and Gift of Wings, and our newest sponsors, Time Warner Cable, 102.1 WLUM, B93.3, and 1290am WMCS.

Featured performers include Chicago Fire, featuring Eric Wolfe, the new Revolution Kite Flying Team...IQUAD, featuring John Barresi for the second year at Mots. The return of Mr. Kite and his 450 ft Dragon. St Elmos Fires will be back on the field. Welcome Bob and Karen Roehl. Mots also will feature Josh and Zach Gordon, Charlie Sotich, Team Pegasus…John and Elaine Cosby all the way from Puerto Rico, Mr. Incredible, Dave Bush, ( who by the way is now famous), Dan Newman, Paul Koepke, Paula Schenk, Mike Delfar, Ann Vondriska, & Donna Schenk as Mrs Kite Lady, and the GIANT kites of Yves LaForest. Yves Laforest will feature the giant Octopus Kite, along with the Giant Star, and all the other giant kites in his inventory. Yves will be teaming up with Gary Mark and Don Brownridge from Toronto, for one of the largest display of unusual kites in the Country.

The Caribou Coffee Grand Launch of around 500 kites will take place directly at noon. The professional kite teams will start performing at 12:30 pm followed by the Radio Disney Kids Mad Dash at around 2:00. See Roscoe from the Milwaukee Admirals, and Bango from the Bucks. For more information, call Scott Fisher at 414/425-9993 or Jeff Kataoka at 414/277-9121.

Be sure to wear your red IKE shirts so Scott will know who you are.

I'm going to Dekalb this year. Just not enough time for a drive to Milwaukee and I can only do Sunday anyway.

I'm hoping to see you knuckle heads in Dekalb. What's a festival without the likes of the IKE's.

The Comfort Inn is going to be the official hotel for the festival this year too.
So, all the kiters will be there.

Oh, Ann and Anne: Adrian will be there, so make sure you have fresh batteries in your camera :P

With ALL at the same hotel, it maybe a good thing there is NO pool there.
For very few would have gotten much sleep.
But there is ALWAYS the hotel lobby.

I am hoping for no threats of the police being called for us being too noisey. LOL

Anyone bringing a sun/rain shelter?

Saturday looks kinda iffy.

Let's hope the forecast is wrong, but if there's no thunder, the demos will continue in the rain--bring rain gear!

Paul, Ken and I plan on hitting Veterans Park today (Friday) around 3:30 to 4:00 pm.
If you're in the area, join us.
You may want to give me a call on my cell around 3:00 to see if we'll actually make it--you never know how traffic in Chicago and Milwaukee will be.

My shelter is in the trunk of my car which is in the parking garage at the Milwaukee airport. I'm supposed to arrive in Milwaukee tonight at 11:50 pm...weather permitting. I'm at the same hotel with everyone.

Cool. They were originally gonna fly out of Houston, but Ike (not IKE) changed their plans.
iQuad will probably leave at 6am tomorrow for the field. The TV news wants to film at 6:45am.

Ken, Chrissy, Paul and the rest of the gang will head out later.

(Brian--very sorry we missed you out at the field today. Turns out we were too hungry to hang out long  )
