2008: Perry Farms Kite Festival - August 16-17, 2008

Perry Farms Kite Festival - August 16-17, 2008 - Bourbonnais, IL

The field is smaller this year. They can't mow the back field in order to protect the habitat of this charming little fellow:

There will be a competition area and a public fly area. There are two smaller areas that may be usable depending on the wind direction.

It's a fun festival in a nice park. I recommend it and hope to see lots of IKE folks out there, but because of the reduced field size, come with a sense of humour :-D and be prepared to work around the public.

The size of the crowd has been limited the past couple years because of the weather, this date should be much better than April.

Rose and I will be there both days. Maybe Fern.
(If you haven't met them, Fern is my wife, Rose is my daughter)

i've got a lot of those birds in my back yard!

Probably the following year, the fields will be even smaller, due to protecting the bird in the link below!

i'll be there... and Marla too if it's not too hot!

I can make it on Sunday if you need another 180 Go! guy to make an even numbered group.

I hope to know more on soon...
You're welcome to come play even if it makes it an odd number. 180GO! isn't going to have a dedicated field, so we'll be working with what we can find. We may be flying on 75' lines in order to fit on the field. Bring a set if you've got 'em.

Well, it looks like I won't be able to make it to Perry Farms. Too bad cause I was really jonesing for some team flying.

My father who lives in Florida will be in Rockford for the weekend. It's Chili's B-Day today (12) so it will be nice for him to see his grandfather on Sunday.

I'll keep practicing for Two Rivers. See you there.

I don't know if a good time was had by all, but Sunday was a blast for me. Big Mike, Little Mike and Ken all helped me with my home work for the next few weeks. What a rush it is when your rhythm is just right and the kite spins around it's central axis ... and that's actually what you're trying to do! Since I started the day with totally incorrect hand movements and finished the day being able to do a multiple axial rotation one out of four times, the day was a success for me. Now I just have to learn to stop the fun before I put 20 or so twists in the line ... boy do they lock up with that many twists.

I think I also discovered a piece of the dark side of quads. You've seen those videos of Rev flyers teasing dogs and little kids. Well, the flying field was crowded ... and this little kid walked across the end ... and yep, the look on his face when he turned around a saw my kite carefully following him across the field was priceless ... well, priceless for me at least. Oh, and I know it's probably mean, but I learned that the flapping of the sail from a dive stop causes single line folks to stop standing under your kite to fly.

Cheers,
Tom

As usual it was a lot of fun! ... and, as Mike Delfar, on Sunday, sagaciously said: "Forget the endangered bird!... Kite fliers are the real endangered species!"
