2008: August 16-17, Perry Farms Kite Festival in Bourbonnais

Postby Mike » Wed, Apr 16 2008, 04:47 PM

Perry Farms Kite Festival
August 16-17, 2008
Bourbonnais, IL

After several phone calls, the date changed and came back, and this now our date for sure.

Instead of the lousy April weather of years past, we have a good shot at having sunny skies and big crowds for this one.

There is still planning to be done, but one possibility is for the field to be laid out like this.
There might even be a small sound system for the IKE field.
There should be room for SLKs and kite arches in the IKE field, along with sport kites.
With a sound system, we could have individual demos and 180GO! performances.
We can have candy drops, and we could set aside an hour for lessons each day.

The competitions would be going on too, so it would be like a 3-ring circus: the crowd wont know where to look!

Sweet... the IKE field is where the public used to fly; that probably means we'd have to monitor the field a lot for disoriented people... unless a few good signs are posted (which would help a lot). i'll see if we can make a few small signs in my classroom.

Never mind that my definition for "disoriented people" includes those that are currently republicans or into organized religion... we won't go there!

i love the super large eagles that fly in the area!... some are Bald Eagles... very cool!

In past years they've been good about signs and volunteers helping to organize things. It shouldn't be a problem.

We've got a lot of time to plan for this, but let's start getting a head count.
I don't want them to reserve a field for us and not have a big IKE turnout.

I will be there.
