oh, you know the forecast will change every day.
They can't predict the wind. Last Sunday should have been 10mph according to the forecast.

Holy carp!

Probably won't be that extreme.

I'll have my 4-wraps anyway, though.

The team kites also have 4 wraps.

Currently, NOAA forecasts winds around 17mph for both days.
I've patched up a bunch of holes in Mimi, so she's ready for another blustery day

Pizzeria to host kite event

June 6, 2008
Sun staff

Kite flyers from Illinois and across the Midwest will be at Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, 131 Jefferson Ave., for a public "meet and greet" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Community kite enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend this event to visit with expert flyers following the first day of the two-day Frontier Kite Fly Festival, hosted by the Naperville Park District and its partners. The Kite Fly Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Frontier Park, 3380 Cedar Glade Drive.

The festival is a free family event featuring gigantic kites, demonstrations and stunts. Other activities include a learn-to-fly field, a battle featuring Rokkaku kites (a traditional Japanese kite), and a candy drop.

Parents may choose to purchase a $5 wristband for their child to enjoy the NASA Fun Area, where kids can visit an inflatable rocket ship, experience G-forces, win prizes at the penny carnival, test the climbing wall and moon jump.

Wow! That's good to know. Good catch, Jeff.
If we do this festival again we'll make sure that the press mentions that the kite activities are provided by Illinois Kite Enthusiasts.

There's a link to "maps" at the top of every page. We try to keep that up-to-date. (And by "we" I mostly mean Jeff :-) )
Or you can just click here.

Hey, nice spacing on those kites. :-)

After seeing those pics I have decided I need a different hat.

So, on the way home many streets in Franklin were closed because of flooding. Little bit of water in the basement. Stupid helecopter seeds had cloged my gutters.

Chili says "Hey" he had a great time. Cookie says "Woof" she is still a little sleepy but she had a great time too.

winds were howling today. At around noon, we had to pack it all in because they were just too strong to fly in. Then the storms came through and they called everything for the day.

Issac, I just loved Cookie. I wanted to steal her.

That is what makes flying in the mid west so much fun. You NEVER know what Ol' Ma Nature is going to give us to play with. But this is always a fun fest to fly at. The crowds are always amazed at what we can do with our high dollar toys. 8)

After I came home, I went out to the neighborhood park. Flew my SUL for about an hour in 3-5 mph winds.

What a difference. :P

180GO! managed to fly a few good sets this morning before the wind picked up.
I wish we could have stayed and flew some more, but since the rain forced us to leave early, Rose and I hit Trader Joes and bought strange dried fruit (Dragon Fruit, Mangostein and Lychees), cookies and candy and sampled each on the way home.
We also passed an IKEA furniture store, so we did a u-turn and went back to check it out. Neither of us had ever been in one and figured it has become a kind of a thing that many people do in popular culture. It's an entertaining place in a kind of Disney sort of way. The way they route you thru the store felt like one long line for a ride at Disneyland. Every item they sell seems to have an amusing (to our ears) Swedish name. Each bookcase has it's own name for example. It even had a mini day-care area for kids, and a restaurant. After doing the second floor we were done, but the only way to leave was to follow the convoluted path on the first floor to the exit. We had a good time, mostly laughing, and it was interesting--but I don't think I need to go in one again :-)

Does anyone know if Mike Hall got his kite out of the lake? The last I heard, the parks department was rounding up a boat.
