Hey, that's near Rockford. Depending on the date I'd be up for that.

Is that Kathy Horn and crew? They used to have a festival and are part of MAKR.

Sure we could go , but they need to float some dates out there. My calendar is pretty full at present. And gas money would be great.

I expect they'll want to do it during National Kite Month. I'll get back to you when I have some dates.

Here's some more info. They are thinking the evening of Thursday, May 29th.

I checked the historic weather reports and the last couple years they had good winds in the evening. Might be fun to do a night fly.
Who is interested now?

Oregon is a small town (approx 4,500 people). We have 7 beautiful parks though and a wonderful Park District. Last year was the first for this event and we probably had a couple hundred people come out. There were two baseball games going on, South Paw (White Sox) was there, we had a jumping cage for little kids and we dedicated a scorekeepers booth for a former employee (scorekeeper) who was killed in a car accident. We want to do something special each year to kick off the baseball season and the Parks opening up for summer use. I thought the kite fly might be fun. It would all happen in the evening. We do it on Thur night so that we have Fri for the rain-day! We talked about getting the Rockford Riverhawks mascot here this year, and having a local band in the evening near the sand volleyball court. The south end of this particular park has fields for soccer which I thought might be a good area for kite flying.

I know you said that none of your kite enthusiasts live near Oregon, so I’m hoping that a few might just like to come out for fun, even on a week night.

I’ll attach a couple photos to give you an idea of the open area in the park.

Night fly? Hmm. That is interesting.

Don't know how a weekday evening would work out though. Looks like at least 1 hr 40 minutes to get there from work, not accounting for traffic, and right about 2 hrs to get home.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

IKE is on Image too!

 Really?! Huh, 4 IKE members had dinner in Oregon last month. It's near us! :-)

Mike,
We fly at this park all the time as my mother only lives a few blocks away from that park. It shouldn't be any problem for us to make it to this. As a matter of fact, the pic's we posted in cold weather flying is at that park.

The weekends are going to be full enough for me... I'm going to have to take a pass on the weekday stuff.

If it were closer, it would be doable.

Sorry to say but week nights would be hard for me also. Should things change on I would still like to.

It's really great to see we have some IKE folks to do this.
Anyone who is serious and will commit to the date, please PM me to confirm what sort of kite thing you will be doing (sport / SLK / candy drop / whatever) and I'll pass your information to the park district.

It's great that the Draftnik family will be there. They've got sport kites and SLKs and they drop candy and para-bears too!
Anyone else want to commit to this? Please PM me, even if you've spoken to me in person. It helps me to be organized if I have it in messages or emails.

*bump*
I’ve been trying to find kite flyers here in the local area, but still not having a whole lot of luck. I’m hoping you might be able to help me with your contacts. The biggest obstacle for some people might be that it occurs on a weekday evening. Our Opening Night of Baseball and Family Fun Event is scheduled for Thursday, May 29th. All of the activities will happen sometime between 5:30-9:00 p.m. I’m ordering sled kites out of OK for children to be able to make and try to fly. My hope is to have 2-3 professional/enthusiast flying their beautiful works of art high above the ball diamonds and soccer fields. I’m sure we have a big enough open area to fly kites. I know very little about kite flying, so I’m hoping to get some help/ideas from those of you that do fly!

I think this will be a great family event.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Maybe you could post something again for me.

Thanks for your time!

Draftnik, are you still interested?
Anyone else?
